Some moments invite us to look back with gratitude and look ahead with trust. Acts 2:42–47 gives us a beautiful picture of the Church—people devoted to God’s Word, fellowship, worship, prayer, and caring for one another. Through the years, people come and go, circumstances change, and different people have the privilege of serving for a time. Yet one thing remains: the Church belongs to Christ. As we come to the final sermon in our series Keep Looking to Christ: Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus, we will remember God’s faithfulness through the years and look ahead with confidence—not because we know exactly what the future holds, but because we know who holds the future. We do our part, and we trust God to do His. The Church continues.

Please join us on Sunday August 30, 2026, as we charge and bless Pastor Mary Jo into retirement. She has served us well for 14 years and we will miss her dearly. Service starts at 10 am. There will be no Sunday School this week so all can be in the sanctuary.

An upstairs reception will follow directly after worship.

Life does not always unfold the way we expect. Circumstances change, strength can grow weary, and the future can sometimes seem uncertain. Yet Christian hope is not wishful thinking or confidence that everything will work out according to our plans. Our hope rests in the character and promises of God, is grounded in Jesus Christ, and gives us strength to remain faithful in the present. In “Live in Hope,” we will consider what it means to keep looking to Christ when the road is difficult—and to live faithfully today because we know who holds the future.

The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. In Ephesians 4, Paul reminds us that Christ has made us one body, given us different gifts, and called us to live with humility, gentleness, patience, and love. Jesus didn't merely save individuals—He created a people. As we keep looking to Christ, we learn to value one another, encourage one another, bear one another's burdens, and protect the unity of the Spirit. Christ is the Head of His Church, and every member has a place and purpose in His body.

We often think the Christian life is about trying harder—being more determined, making better choices, and relying on our own strength. Scripture points us somewhere different. God promised to give His people a new heart and put His Spirit within them. Jesus fulfilled that promise by sending the Holy Spirit, our Advocate, to remain with us and lead us. In Galatians 5, Paul calls us to “walk by the Spirit”—not because we can manufacture holiness ourselves, but because Christ has not left us to live the Christian life alone. As we depend upon the Spirit, He produces the character of Christ in us and teaches us to keep looking to Jesus.
