THE FAMILY CURSE
" And when He was come out of the ship , immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit ." [ Mark 5:2]
This symbolizes the great mission for which Christ came to this world . The example of this maniac is not an overemphasis of the state of man . It perfectly symbolizes the unregenerate heart .
To be demon possessed is an awful thing , and it seems to always include at least some form of insanity . Even consecrated Believers at times , oppressed by demon spirits , or even influenced . However , oppression or influence are not possession . A Believer cannot be demon possessed - influenced and oppressed , yes !
The terrible chain is broken upon any member of the family coming to Christ , and especially an entire family coming to Christ . This horrible chain of demon influence , oppression , and even possession , is now broken . It does not mean that demon powers cannot have some access , even to Believers , but it does mean that their authority to steal , kill , and destroy is broken , if the Believers involved will make Christ and the Cross the Object of their Faith .
What the people of this false doctrine called the " family curse " fail to see are the words , " of them who hate Me ." The Scripture is speaking of generations of people who continue to hate the Lord , which means they do not serve Him . In that case , family curses can pass down . But when even one member of the family comes to Christ , the deadly chain is broken .
Whatever type of trouble the people are having that problem may not be a family curse . Their problem is that they have made something the object of their faith other than Christ and the Cross . Jesus said , " You will know the Truth , and the Truth will make you free " [ John. 8:32 ] .
Not understanding Christ and the Cross , the sin nature begins to rule that individual , with the person thinking they are " demon possessed ." So when they hear this false doctrine about the " family curse ," they buy into it , because of the problems they are having . Even though the Preacher may be sincere who prays for them , still , believing and engaging in something erroneous , is not going to turn out to a successful conclusion .
Because of the seriousness of the situation , let me state that which must be brought about for such a person to walk in victory . With Christ as the Source and the Cross as the Means , the Holy Spirit will then help us mightily , bringing about all the things which only He can do [ Rom. 8:1-2 , 11 ] . Which is Victory !
If every Believer in the world would adhere to this simple formula , their whole world would turn around , and definitely for the better .
