GOD’S WORD AND YOU
We are living in a complex day and age. You realize that the world is spiraling around us all too fast what with it's streaming capabilities for leisurely viewing and technology that is at our fingertips. While this is great to many, there are many who feel that such things when pushed out of balance can become a very great distraction. What do I mean by that? By that I mean that there is nothing wrong with watching tv or a movie for example. Need it be said that we should be mindful of what type of programming we are watching. Why? We should be mindful of what we are allowing through our eye gates.
Also, if you are a parent, there is obviously more to consider in this issue than just ourselves. Speaking constructively, our children should not have free reign on what they want to watch keeping in mind the different audience ratings. i have noticed in the past, there are those who chose to eliminate this issue altogether by opting out of owning a tv. But in truth, technology is only one distraction. There are many ways the enemy of our souls tries to trip us up when it comes to time alone with our Father and spending time in His Word. Some would call it fanatical but would you ever consider not getting together with friends in order to spend time in the Word and prayer? I have even seen that in various times across the years, ministry took the place of actually spending time in the Book of Life. I remember that the Lord spoke to me in that quiet voice within and said, "Remember the Lord of the work more than the work of the Lord. Now, I never forgot that He spoke that to me, though I have slipped from time to time. We can fool ourselves into thinking we're spending time with Him just because we are doing the work of the ministry in any of it's various forms but that is shallow at best compared to gaining life from His Word.
ABIDING IN HIM
Jesus said, If you abide in Me and My Word abides in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. Do you see the power, the pricelessness of your connection with Him and His Word? The enemy does and he does not like it. He will throw anything he can against you to keep you from the one thing that really matters in this life: Renewing yourself in the Word of God. When our minds begin to become renewed according to God's Word, we see that our lives, literally everything we do has it's basis in Him. The scripture has place which says: In Him we live and move and have our being. The life of the branch is in the Vine. This is to say, if we are properly connected or we are found in the Vine, we have a better sense of what it is that we do that advances His Kingdom. The more intimate our connection with Jesus and His Word, the less chance we have to fall prey to distractions. The more likely we are to hear His voice and follow His directives. It blesses me to think on those who have so done away with the things of this life that they see only what can be done for the advancement of God's Kingdom. They are movers and shakers when it comes to obedience for their Lord. All of this comes from a reverence for God's Word. A proper understanding of it reveals the destiny laid up for you from before the foundation of the world. But we will never know that if we don't spend time in the Book. That can lead to us trying to walk out God's plan for our lives in our own strength and thus, continue to be hindered and plagued by distractions. In these last of times, it does us well to focus on our number one priority which is spending time with Our Father and His Word over and above anything else we engage in. Remember, it is in Him that we find Life.
