First Congregational Church of Stockton

First Congregational Church of Stockton No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, YOU ARE WELCOME HERE! Http://firstcongregationalstockton.org/ Scott Elliott

Our church has been serving God and the community since 1865. We have a long history of working on justice issues, forging interfaith relations, helping those in need, opposing oppression, and welcoming everyone. We believe everyone is loved and matters much to God and Jesus, and we think that like them, our love should have no strings attached. Our denomination tends to focus, like Jesus does,

on love being the supreme directive in our way of being. And the love we are talking about is the one Jesus talked about, the desire and action for the well-being of others here on earth now. We take the gift of Scripture and the gift of our minds seriously and as not being mutually exclusive. This has led many of us, and certainly me, to (among other things), trust science's irrefutable claim that homosexuality is a part of creation and God's assertion in Genesis that all of creation is very good, meaning LGBTQ+ folks are goodly and Godly made. If you want a place where people can love all their neighbors and ask questions about God and Jesus and the Bible, UCC churches tend to be good places for that. If you want a place where people can explore God as being this awe and wonder and love that we live and move and have our being in, you should check out our UCC faith community. We'd love to have you join us on our Spiritual quest through loving words and deeds. -- Rev.

It's that time of year. Our pastor, the director, has over 50 years of theatre experience. There some great roles in this script and all of them are written so a female or male can play them (the script has been a part of an award winning production).

"God Dislikes Worship by Falsely Religious and Unjust People" a May 3, 2026 sermon. A discussion around Amos 5:11-14 and the type of leaders and institutions the Prophet was shouting about. How God did not --and does not-- like leaders and institutions who oppress those in need and those that did not --and do not-- oppose that oppression.
