"People know what’s real.
What a real encounter with Jesus looks like.
What really hearing God sounds like.
What really seeing God at work LOOKS LIKE.

And it looks like those relationships and those 3 Rs being lived out under that collective community knowledge of Jesus’ Saving Sacrifice as the backdrop.

If the “institution” falls down while you’re doing that, then so be it, you’ve lived the Christian life, and you can go to Jesus and say 'why?'.
But if you’re trying to prop up the facade, it’s killing people, it’s sending them away from Jesus, and there’s no recourse to say to Jesus 'why?' because you know why.
The calling is going to be back to the 3 Rs:

- Repentance
- Reconciliation
- Restoration"

"I want to dive right in today and ‘zoom in’ to one specific part of this chapter, and then ‘zoom back out’ again for a high level walk through of it. Because there is in this chapter, Song of Songs 8, one of the most surprising and incredible things I believe that you will find in the entire Bible!

She’s [the Bride] turning around to KING SOLOMON - the King of all of wisdom, all treasure - and saying to him 'I don’t need you any more. I will not be a puppet in your play any more'.

That she will not ‘play the game’ to be ‘used and abused’ any more.

But she does so … in the most graciously and overwhelmingly-perfectly-loving way that keeps the door open for grace… for the hope of even Solomon overseeing his vineyard to change his ways.

Here’s your thousand, here’s your ‘blood money’ as it were, here’s your ‘usefulness tax', and here’s a tithe for your workers too, who you’re not paying by the way, here’s a double-tithe in-fact out of abundant generosity for them, bye-bye now.

In modern parlance, we might say that the Bride is giving the ultimate ‘mic drop’ to Solomon.

The Bride...is saying to Solomon I don’t care about being transactional, I have the perfect eternal vineyard right here that I am secure and content in for ever. I don’t want or need to play performative games for worldly status. And she even STILL meets his monetary request out of love, to be ‘above reproach’, and drops that little ‘grace overage’ of double-tithing Solomon’s workers as well as a nod to caring about them in a way that Solomon simply does not."

"The vital GROUNDING chapter 7 gives us is that these ‘vows’ between Bride & Groom are a picture of the ETERNAL COVENANT - the divine agreement of perfect love laid out by God in Christ for us to walk and live into.

Sure and certain promises.
Not empty words.
But already actioned out and laid out.

All the work has been done. The garden is set. The Groom is grazing in it. And Jesus says ‘come’, to YOU, his lily among the thorns of this life mired in sickness, suffering, and sin."

Not in a self-serving way, not in a pep talk 'my best self” way' ... 'cause those things aren't being fully alive:
You’re always searching for more, the 'next big thing', a 'hit' of I don’t know fame of fortune or affirmation,
or you’re still at some level anxious about providing for home and family or what if I get sick and so on.

It is living in the Garden with the Savior."

"Is Jesus at the door of your heart, and you’re prising the door open just that little bit with the latch still on, saying “Thanks for dropping by!” and then closing the door again?
That’s the life of going through the motions, coming to a nice church service for a nice spiritual-feeling time, then on with my week until next Sunday, and that’s it.
Nobody is saved by looking across the doorway AT Jesus. It’s the relationship, the union, OPENING the door and Him stepping INTO your life and LIVING it - ALL OF IT - with you.
THAT’S faith in action."
