Set Apart For God's Glory
In John 17:17 Jesus prayed for his Christian followers, asking the Father to, "[17] Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth."
The word SANCTIFY has a two-fold meaning: 1) to set apart or consecrate for God's holy purpose. And 2) it also means that we've been set apart or consecrated to attain the character of Christ, internally.
Jesus' prayer reveals that we must immersed ourselves in the holy Word of God, allowing our character to be transformed as our minds are being renewed in accordance with the truth of God's Word.
Are you immersing yourself in God's Word daily with a commitment to obey God? If not, its not too late to start. Repent and begin your immersion today! The gospel of John is a good place to begin.
Now its time to transition to the next verse, John 17:18. Jesus makes a statement here that applies to every follower of Christ:
"[18] As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world".
God sanctified Jesus to "send Him into the world" for the holy purpose of God. Jesus then says He himself sent his followers "into the world" for the same reason. And He didn’t just mean His disciples at that time because later, in verse 20, Jesus said:
[20] “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word...".
So we have all been set apart to be sent into the world to carry out the divine will of Almighty God in Jesus' name. So you have a divine calling to tell others about the good news of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! Immerse yourself in God's Word, take courage, get out there and be a witness for Jesus. You are well able to be a soul-winner for Christ.
