Sanborn Lake was beautiful yesterday! The water was still and the flora was still green, despite the heat. We had a good group of ten people and three dogs for our Saturday hike.

Our discussion was about the future of humans. What adaptations do you think are needed for mankind to survive? If you could make one prediction about the future human, what would it be?

We returned to the Botanic Garden for this week’s hike! The cooler starting temp and the ample shade from the trees made for a pleasant walk. After the walk, our discussion was about harbingers, portents, and foretellings, and about our reactions to them in our own lives. This topic was inspired by a poem, 'The Problem with Early Warnings,' by Charles Rafferty, which had earlier been shared by our friend, Rick Reiley.

We welcome you this Sunday, August 30, 2026 at 10:30 am.

Reverend Susan Ross will give her message: “Glory Be.”

Why is "glory" a word that shows up so much in "God talk," even showing up in the UU Hymnal?

Reverend Ross, ordained as a United Methodist minister, is our pastoral care minister and speaks on the third and fifth Sundays of the month.

“Utility, Futility, and the Future”

Living our lives, we make many choices and decisions, but we’re never sure how they’ll turn out. Does the future depend on our utility or is it all an exercise in futility?

Reverend Christian is a third generation Unitarian Universalist and speaks to us on the fourth Sundays and alternate first Sundays. He has served congregations in OKC and in Las Cruces NM, prior to moving to Stillwater.
Before his career in ministry he had a career in radio broadcasting.

Couch Park, Hoyt Grove, Downtown Stillwater, and Block34. We’ll call it an urban hike! Our discussion today was on the topic of Stoicism. Introduced by the Ancient Greek, Zeno of Citium around 300 BCE, it teaches how to live a good life by focusing on what we can control. Although perhaps more difficult in modern life, we all felt that there are lessons to be learned, particularly by forming responses to others, rather than allowing reactions to emotions, especially negatives ones.
