Most people treat Labor Day like a bonus day off. Sleep in, grill something, don't think about work until Tuesday.

Fair enough. But before the weekend gets here, it's worth asking what you actually believe about the work you do all year.

Too many of us get this backwards: work isn't a punishment. (Genesis 2:15 puts Adam in the garden to work it before anything ever went wrong)

Work was never the curse. It was the gift.

That means the work you're doing right now: the shift, the job site, the inbox, the laundry... isn't something to survive until real life starts. It's an actual place you get to share in what God does. Whether you clock in at a factory or a restaurant, what you do with your hands and your hours is supposed to point back to him.

And yes, you were also designed to rest. Not because you earned a break from something bad, but because rest and work were both part of the original design. One without the other isn't the plan.

So as we celebrate the gift of work with a weekend holiday to rest, let's also take some time to reflect on how God is able to bring about his purposes through our work and our calling in the places he has placed us.

Enjoy the day off. Just let it reset how you see the next Monday.
