💙 A Community Call: More Foster Families Are Needed 💙
Right now, more than 180 children in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta County are in foster care and over 3/4 of them are placed outside of our community simply because there are NOT enough available foster homes close to home.
When children are placed far away, it often means leaving behind their schools, teachers, therapists, siblings, friends, and the familiar places that help them feel safe. During trauma and uncertainty, connection and attachment matter deeply.
And while many people think foster care is about adoption, the primary goal of foster care is reunification whenever safely possible. Helping children stay close to their community can make a tremendous difference allowing for more consistent family visits, stronger connections, continuity in services, and helping preserve relationships that matter.
Because the truth is: reunification is hard enough. It becomes even harder when children are hours away from everything familiar.
This is not about pressure or guilt. Foster care is not for everyone. But it is about awareness and asking a simple question:
✨ Could our family learn more?
You do not have to be perfect. You do not have to have all the answers. Sometimes saying “yes” starts with simply being willing to have a conversation.
Whether you feel called to foster, offer respite care, or simply want to learn what it means to support vulnerable children in our community , every “yes” matters.
