Fairmont Team Updates Day 8
Travel Day

Update from Mark at 2:30PM:

Completed. We woke up before 7:00 a.m. today, got our items packed up, our cabin swept out, helped with kitchen cleanup, and then departed camp and West Virginia. We stopped at Denny's in Bedford, PA for lunch, then all returned home. It was a safe day of travel, and we are looking forward to some time of rest and relaxation for the rest of the weekend. Thanks again to all who prayed for us on our trip, and to God for giving us success in many areas.

Fairmont Team Update Day 7

Update from Mark at 11:15PM:

Finishing well. The team worked great all day, from dusk to dawn. After a pancake breakfast we cut some trim to size at the camp power tool garage, then headed to our homeowner's house.

So many things got accomplished. Different team members swept the ramp, installed a light fixture, placed insulation supports, framed a window opening and installed two windows, installed and caulked trim, mowed the lawn, fixed a door, and more. At the end of the day we scrambled to get all our tools and construction debris packed up, said our final goodbyes to our homeowner family, and then rushed back to camp, arriving just in time for dinner.

Our homeowner couldn't make it to the Friday evening meal and chapel, but we did get to see some other homeowners from years past. We helped with kitchen cleanup, enjoyed the singing and encouragement from Psalm 16:11 at chapel, then finally unloaded the camp tools and construction trash after the evening program.

Afterwards some of us got showers, played volleyball, talked with other church teams, and played cards.

A very satisfying end to a productive week. Very grateful for no injuries, for safety in driving, for no team conflicts, and for the chance to spend time with our homeowner.

God gives us opportunities all the time to love other people, it is encouraging to get to spend a whole week practicing and learning how to improve in that grace.

Off to bed now. Strangely not tired, almost want to stay another week. But we have to be up early to depart, so I'll sign off. Thanks to all near and far for their effective prayers for our team this week!

Fairmont Team Update Day 6

From Mark this evening:

Thursday, the start of the end. The project needs to be nearly done by the end of Thursday, so that on Friday all the small details can be wrapped up.

Morning began with rain and impressive thunder. We had biscuits and gravy for breakfast, the best breakfast of the week. Work at our job site started wet and muddy, but we pushed on, making excellent progress through the morning.

Our associate staff member Dan came by in the afternoon with his son. They were both a great help throughout the day. By day's end the ramp was complete. Very proud of the crew and their excellent work.

Friday we hope to install a new window, a light fixture, and a door threshold.

Don and Kurt got to talk more with our homeowner and with her mom. Both of them said how appreciative they were to have our team there at the house. They are very sweet people.

Dinner was delicious, good conversation with different teams throughout the meal. Pastor Bill reminded us that God stands at our right hand to defend us, "therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices (Psalm 16). We serve a good God.

In the evening different team members chatted, played sports and card games, and work on some camp projects. A relaxing end to a progress-filled day.

Pray for a smooth ending to the week, and contentment when God's plans and timing are not ours. Much thanks to God for the team's energy and dedication thus far.

Fairmont Team Update Day 5!!

Update from Mark at 9:50PM:

God's work on Wednesday. We woke up to the sound of rain, but it was dry by breakfast. Great progress on the worksite. Finished all the framing and prep, then got the ramp decking fastened down by lunchtime. The whole crew worked very well together, very proud of them all.

Wednesday is our half day off, so after lunch we went to camp to get cleaned up. We then returned to our homeowner's house to visit and relax. We had a great time playing card games with her and her kids-- talking, laughing, and sharing some snacks.

Our team had a great dinner at Cracker Barrel, then enjoyed ice cream at the Dairy Creme Corner, sharing jokes and stories. Back at camp we talked some more and played some card games. We're all going to bed early, looking to have a productive Thursday.

Pray for rest tonight, patience as we rush to finish, strength in work, and continued joy for our team.

Pray for our homeowner and her mom for health issues they are facing.

Fairmont Team Day 4:

Update from Mark at 9:40PM:

Matthew 17:20 "if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move;"

Today we spent the morning digging, finishing the excavation we needed to do to make space for the ramp framing. It felt like it would never end. We loaded a dozen wheelbarrow loads on staff member Dan's truck, very thankful we didn't have to haul more dirt up the hill.

After lunch Amy visited us at the worksite. Our homeowner's son wants to go to college for IT, Amy shared a lot of good info and resources with him and the family. Mom was glad Amy was able to visit.

We got most of the ramp framing done. The team is very tired from the day's work. We enjoyed hot showers (a summer first for camp, thanks to a brand new hot water heater), and then the best meal of the week: grilled chicken, potato casserole, veggies, and a fruit cobbler.

Pastor Bill encouraged us with a message reminding us that the Lord Himself is our portion and cup.

Relaxing now around camp. Some napping, others playing volleyball, some talking.

Pray for continued progress in our work.
Wednesday afternoon is our half day off. We're going to play Uno and card games with the family in the afternoon.

God is good, in many ways.

Fairmont Team Day 3:

(We are cautious in what we post about the families we serve on the public page. Make sure to talk to the team when they get back about the opportunity they had to pray with, and for, some very special people today!)

From Mark: Very helpless feeling, having many tools to build things but no tool other than prayer to help ________. How funny to say that: we worship a big God, the great physician, who owns the cattle on a thousand hills. Is anything too hard for God? Is His arm too short to save? Certainly not. Very thankful God is sovereign over all.

Work progressed smoothly. Got all the excavation done, lined up all our posts, and poured concrete in the holes to dry overnight. Lumber was delivered by staff member Dan in his antique red truck. He is a blessing to our team.

We got to talk with the family we are serving this year. We look forward to more conversations with them.

Pasta dinner, chapel, volleyball, and card games in the evening. Pastor Bill preached on Psalm 16. We take refuge in God, He is the source of our joy.

The week seems to be going by so fast, pray for rest, strength, and flexibility. Thank you!
