1 Corinthians 12:12-27
“Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

Every one of us has a unique role and a unique purpose. Like we talked about yesterday, our differences are a strength…not a weakness. I have a purpose that I am supposed to fulfill and you have a purpose you are supposed to fulfill. This is a gift to the church. You belong…God has gifted you for something that only you can do in our community of faith.

PRAYER
Lord, thank you for creating diversity in your church. Help us to recognize our gifting, so we can us them for your kingdom. In Jesus name, Amen!

Mark 1:14-20
“After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.”
‭‭
Jesus goes to some fisherman and calls them to be his disciples. He then says, “Come, follow me and I will send you out to fish for people.”

How are you fishing for people? How are you catching people for Jesus? Who in you life do you need to fish for? A neighbor? A coworker? A family member?

How are you going to fish for people today?

PRAYER
Lord, help me to fish for you today! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Mark 1:9-13
“At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.”
‭‭
Jesus was tempted…in every way…just like you. What are your temptations? How are you dealing with them? Are you trusting in God to help you in moments of temptation?

Temptations are inevitable. How you handle them is what matters. Let us trust God a little more this week, so we can trust in his grace to empower us to live different lives.

PRAYER
Lord, help me in my struggles. Help me overcome my temptations and forgive me when I give it. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Mark 1:1-8
“The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way”— “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ ” And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.””
‭‭
John the Baptist was called to prepare the way for the Lord. He preached a message of forgiveness and repentance. He warned the people that the Messiah was coming.

How are we actively preparing the way for the Lord? How are you pointing people to Jesus? How are you sharing his love? How are you sharing his forgiveness? How are you sharing his hope? How are you making Jesus know in this world?

You and I are called to prepare the way for the Lord in the lives of those around us…sometimes we do a really good job and other times we really struggle. How are you making Jesus know?

PRAYER
Lord, help me prepare the way for you in the lives of those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Psalm 19:1
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
‭‭
Have you ever wondered where God was? Ever wonder if God is even here? Maybe you’re going through a difficult season in your life right now and you’re questioning if God even exists.

Look up.

The heavens declare the glory of God. Look at the sky and see the work of his hands. I think sometimes we fail to look around and see all that God has created. Let us see God in creation…and let it point us to him.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to look around at all you have made and see you in it. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
