St. John's Chapel UCC

St. John's Chapel UCC St. Come see us! Sundays: Worship 10:30. We believe in a God that is still speaking, a God that is all-loving and inclusive.

John's Chapel is an official open and affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ that offers an extravagant welcome and strives to follow the ways of Jesus and the love he taught us to have! Since 1957, the United Church of Christ has been the church of firsts, weaving God's message of hope and extravagant welcome with action for justice and peace. We are a church that welcomes and acce

pts everyone as they are, where your mind is nourished as much as your soul. We are a church where Jesus the healer meets Jesus the revolutionary, and where together, we grow a just and peaceful world. No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you're welcome here to explore your faith, to meet new people, and to strengthen your personal relationship with God.

This Sunday!

As Pride Month comes to a close, we gather to celebrate the beauty, diversity, and sacred worth of every person.

Whether you have a church home, have been hurt by religion, are exploring faith, or simply want to be part of a welcoming community, you are invited.

Come as you are. Bring your pride colors, your questions, your hopes, your joy, and your whole self. Together we’ll celebrate love, belonging, and the gift of being human.

About Pridefest.....

It started out rough. Pouring rain for set up, the wind tried to takeoff the canopy, the canopy was leaking water, it was messy. I'm very grateful for the help from the fine folks at The Venues Church.

We got set up though. Then a teenager walked up to the box labeled "Love letters from God". They opened up a letter, read it and smiled big.

We had a big table, with 8 to 10 chairs for people to just hang out, relax, get some cold water, a snack, do a craft. We got to share a booth with some great folks from Ekklesia.

All throughout the day, people found rest, joy, belonging. I'm so proud and honored to be a pastor of church that shows up with other faith communities who show up joyfully in spaces like this.

As Michelle's shirt says, "Q***rness is holy." and this is Holy work.

More to come. For now, I'm still reeling in all the goodness of that day.

Happy Pride Month, friends.

You are beautiful, divine and holy.

-Pastor Stephanie and the great people that make up St. John's Chapel UCC.

Dear Beautiful Q***r person,

Maybe you’ve spent your whole life hearing that you were “welcome” as long as you stayed quiet.

Welcome, but don’t talk about who you love. Welcome, but don’t bring your partner. Welcome, but don’t ask questions.Welcome, but don’t be too much.

Welcome, but not really.

Please hear this:

You were never meant to merely be tolerated.

You were created for belonging.
You are a beautiful creation of the Divine.

There is a difference between being allowed in the room and being celebrated in the room. There is a difference between being accepted despite who you are and being loved because of who you are.

If faith has wounded you, if church has broken your heart, if religion has been used as a weapon against you, this Q***r Pastor gets it.

Many of us carry scars from places that should have been sanctuaries. Many of us learned to shrink ourselves in order to survive.

But hear this:

You do not have to become someone else to be worthy of love.

You do not have to hide pieces of yourself to be holy.

You do not have to choose between your faith and your identity.

The God who created you is not waiting for a future version of you to arrive before calling you beloved.

You are already beloved.

There are faith communities where your gifts will be celebrated, your questions welcomed, your story honored, and your presence treasured. Communities where you won’t be asked to sit quietly in the back, but invited to help shape the future. Places where you can lead, serve, worship, laugh, cry, heal, and grow.

St. Johns Chapel United Church of Christ is one of those places. There is a place for you here.

You are a beautiful, sacred, beloved human being. And you belong.

With love, we wish you a Happy Pride Month and hope to see you soon!

With much Love,
Pastor Stephanie and the beautiful community that is St. John's Chapel UCC

PS-We'll be celebrating at Pridefest, stop by. We'll be the carnival oasis of rest in the heat.

For four weeks now, I've offered lunch on Wednesdays. No catch, no gimmicks, no price to pay. Just good food and connection.

At a time where there has been deep division and polarization, it has been such a gift to just simply share lunch with others, connect and just be.

Join me (and hopefully others) this Wednesday. Bring yourself, a friend, a neighbor, somebody you just met.

Seriously, come on. Take a break, come by. There will be something for everyone. Salad and baked potatoes-many dressing choices and toppings. 12-3.

Hope to see you there,
Pastor Stephanie
