Reflection of the week:
As you are reflecting this week, we ask that you think of the people of Myanmar. Over 3 million people have been displaced due to violence and persecution, with many attempting dangerous border crossings to escape. Furthermore, close to a third of the population is in need of humanitarian aid, with many having little access to consistent food or medicine. We hope that those who have been displaced will find refuge, that those in need will be provided for, and that the country will stabilize to prevent future disasters.

MA CLEARANCES

The first three Clearances can theoretically be completed in any order, but are typically completed as follows:
1) Security Clearance: This is obtained at in-person Security Training sessions that take place at our Journey events every March and October. This is required to be taken in-person, even if the MA previously took security training online. Upon approval/the start of an itineration term, the MA should make sure to get registered for Journey so that they can achieve this. MAs only need this Clearance once. (For future itineration cycles, MAs do not need to complete security training if they have attended in-person Security Training in the past.
2) Visa Clearance: This can be pursued once an MA has raised 80% or more of their overall budget (50% if they’re going to India). They must contact Lily Belbin ([email protected]) and work with her to get this. Even if an MA doesn’t need a Visa to get to their respective field, they MUST still get Visa Clearance from Lily.
3) Financial Clearance: This one is relatively straightforward. Thad will grant an MA Financial Clearance once they have raised both their cash and commitment budgets completely.
Once the first three have been obtained, Noah (AP/EU/LAC) or Nathaniel (EA/AF/IM/GEN) will reach out to an MA’s mentor, area director, and regional director to ask if the MA has approval to purchase tickets. This is considered the 4th Clearance: Mentor/Regional Clearance. Approval to do this is also considered approval to pursue remaining clearances.
4) Mentor/Regional Clearance: See above.
5) Travel Clearance: Upon receiving M&R Clearance, the MA will be told to reach out to Lily Belbin again to confirm a departure date and to buy tickets.
6) Insurance Clearance: Once ticketing information is obtained, the MA is instructed to reach out to Chloi Keel ([email protected]) to enroll in insurance.
7) Final Clearance: Once the IT Specialist for the MA’s region has verified that the previous six clearances have all been obtained, the IT Specialist grants Final Clearance, which officially gives the MA permission to travel to the field for their assignment. MAs are not to leave for the field without receiving Final Clearance.

Reflection of the week:
As you are reflecting this week, we ask that you think of the people of Syria. As of this year, it is estimated that over 6 million people have been displaced due to violence. More than 14 million people are suffering from food insecurity, including 600,000 young children. We hope that this overwhelming violence will be curbed, that those displaced will find refuge, and that aid will be given to those in need.

Reflection of the week:
As you are reflecting this week, we ask that you think of the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. These countries are currently facing a bad Ebola outbreak. This strain of Ebola has no targeted treatment and has already been linked to over 130 deaths. We hope that the people affected are able to get the help they need, that this outbreak will be contained, and that the death toll will not continue to rise.

Reflection of the week:
As you are reflecting this week, we ask that you think of the people of Somalia. It is estimated that 6.5 million people are facing substantial food insecurity, including 2 million children under 5. Additionally, around 1.4 million people are displaced in search of food. We hope that humanitarian aid will reach those most in need, that those who are displaced will be welcomed, and that malnourished children will receive necessary treatment.
