Sooooo, I made a mistake last Sunday. I may have said that the Apple Cup was Saturday....it is not. It is Sunday at 1pm. So, there should be no "interference" with my sermon this Sunday morning. How do you like those apples!

There will be a table during fellowship this Sunday with council members if you wish to talk to them, make a comment, say thank you, or really anything you would like.

On September 11-12 Advent will be hosting our Synod's WELCA (Women of the ELCA) group. Pastor Holly Gunby and Pastor Yvette Schock (from Riverview) will be the main speakers. See the sign up in the narthex on the table.

On September 18-19 Advent will be hosting our Synod Council. Our resident chef, Terry Powell, will be serving them dinner Friday night.

This Monday, Labor Day, the church and child center will be closed.

Thank you Lord for the refreshing rain!

Blessings,
Pastor Matt

Well, I hope you didn't blink when summer started....cause September is right around the corner!
Remember to look through your September newsletter when you receive it, there are a number of opportunities, programs, and service projects that will be in there.

Thank you to Bill and Rita Thurston for their fantastic work on the bench by the front door. Sanded and stained!

You may have heard but we have a morning fitness class in the gym on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning at 8:30am. It is a low impact class with stretching and strengthening.

Also, a reminder that there is a group of men that meet for Breakfast and devotion at Revel on Fridays at 6:30am. (It's a good breakfast and it is reasonably priced) If you are interested contact the office and we will connect you.

The youth will be attending a concert at Riverfront Park tomorrow night. Any questions contact Kara Wilson.

We have been informed that there is a new fire around Wallace, ID and our own Shoshone Retreat Center is being used for responders. We will try to give you more information as we receive it.

Have a wonderful weekend and I hope to see you in worship!

Blessings,

Pastor Matt

It was good to get away for some family time and long walks. Thank you for hosting Pastor Ladd Bjorneby last Sunday, he expressed his gratitude for a warm welcome.

Thank you to all of you who have contributed to the Fire Alarm Replacement Fund! We have raised around $23,000 total (which includes the gift from Pastor Norm Braatz's estate). The total for the project is just under $35,000. We are well on our way!!

Have you seen the new wood chips along McDonald Rd? A great big thank you to all of the people who laid down sod, paper, and wood chips!! It looks great! We will be installing low maintenance/drought resistant plants along McDonald in the coming weeks.

As the summer ends we look forward to some activities and programs starting up again:
-Thursday morning Bible Study will begin September 10th at 10am.
-Sunday September 6th we will be installing our new Visitation Ministers Coordinator, Brian Hulvey!
-Our Outreach committee will be setting up a time to assemble Blessings Bags later in September.

We continue to pray for and support all of the families, responders, relief workers and others that are living in the aftermath of the wildfires both here and abroad!

Blessings,

Pastor Matt

"When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not consume you." Isaiah 43:2

The fire has done what it does...it burns down trees, houses, cars, etc. But the flames continue. The flames of impatience, of grief, of anger, of the unknown. These flames will continue. But don't let it consume you and who you are, who we are. The response by people everywhere has been tremendous, so much so that some of the relief sites are asking all of us to pause so that they can sort and distribute what has been donated. This is not a sprint, it will be a marathon.
Thank you to all of you who have donated to the relief effort. Let us be ever vigilant as time goes on and there is
less media and more fatigue. We will continue to be a place of refuge and support through our time, talent, and treasure.
Especially in the long haul. We will not let the flames consume us! God be with all those affected by this tragedy!
God be with all the responders and volunteers! God be with you!

The next Come to Friday dinner will be August 14th.

Pastor Matt will be taking some time off next week and Pastor Ladd Bjorneby will be preaching and presiding at Worship on the 16th.
If there is a pastoral emergency please call the office.

The monthly Ladies Lunch will be at Max at Mirabeau this Saturday at noon. If you have any questions, call the office.

When you go to our website it now opens with a pop up window that posts the 2 websites that have the best information for what is happening. Eventually it will become one website.

Blessings,

Pastor Matt

As wildfires continue to impact communities across Washington and Oregon, Lutheran Disaster Response is walking alongside affected synods, congregations, and neighbors during this difficult time.

We pray for all those in harm's way, those who have been forced to evacuate, and those facing uncertainty and loss. We also lift up the firefighters, emergency personnel, and first responders working tirelessly to protect lives and communities.

In the midst of these challenges, we remain committed to accompanying communities with compassion, hope, and care for the long journey of recovery ahead.

Your support helps Lutheran Disaster Response stand with communities affected by disaster, providing relief, recovery assistance, and hope when it is needed most. Giving link below.

I attended a community meeting this morning at Shadle Park High School with community leaders from religious, non-profit, business, governmental, and school district personnel. Mayor Lisa Brown and leaders from the Innovia Foundation, Spokane School District and the Red Cross gave updates on care and donations.

All of them shared their gratitude for our community's response to these fires, it has been wonderful! There are lots of people out there volunteering.

If you or someone you know needs to connect with the resources that are available there are 2 links down below that will give you available information on help, shelter, food, insurance questions, etc. They will be updated frequently.

On both the websites you will see 4 places to donate money to help with immediate (and eventually) long term needs. The city of Spokane has set up a fund that will distribute all monies towards fire relief (including no card fees). The Innovia Foundation will be making micro-grants to companies, non-profits, and others for relief. Then there is Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington that deals with mostly food and shelter. The Red Cross is taking donations, and if noted on the donation that it is for Spokane Fires, all money will be directed to the Eastern Washington chapter.
I will be meeting, along with area clergy, our Regional Director of Lutheran Disaster Response tomorrow afternoon. After that meeting I will inform you how we can help support LDR. LDR tends to be one of the few organizations that stay for the long haul and help fill in gaps that people fall into after disasters.

Your prayers, support, and helping hands are so important right now. For those of you housing evacuees, thank you! For those of you actively volunteering, thank you! For those of you praying, Thank you!

Here are the 2 websites with the most relief information right now. Again, they will be updated frequently:

Do you like to get your hands dirty? Well, have we got an opportunity for you! Come to Advent Friday morning, July 31st at 8am and help rake the new compost on the strip along McDonald Ave. Bring your own rake if you can.

The last Summer Book Study session will be Wednesday August 5th. We will be meeting at Cindy Falk's house at 6:30pm.

Thank you to everyone who attended our special congregational meeting last Sunday. The resolution passed to build the new playground and fence. We hope to get the ball rolling asap!

We continue to pray for all those affected by the wildfires along with those fighting it!

Blessings,

Pastor Matt
