In his Aug. 19 general audience, Pope Leo XIV reflected on the place of sacred music in the liturgy, drawing from Sacrosanctum Concilium.

He reminded the Church that sacred music serves a deeper purpose: it helps us pray, unites the faithful, and enables the assembly to participate more fully in the celebration.

At the same time, the Church is called to preserve its rich musical heritage while taking seriously the musical traditions of different cultures.

Tradition. Inculturation. Participation.

And as Pope Leo reminded us, participation can take the form of both singing and reverent silence.

“Cantare amantis est”—singing belongs to those who love.

The countdown to the St. Christopher Summer Festival is on!

While volunteers are still needed, there are plenty of other ways to support the festival. Stop by the Festival Giving Tree in the back of church, choose a tag, and donate a requested item by June 13.

If you are coming to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this Sunday for qualifications, Fr. Joe will be celebrating Mass inside the track at 9am. It will be held at trackside garage 19.
