Scripture Memory, Week 25, Day 3

Pray. Read Lamentations 3:22-23 aloud. Write it. Read it.

Translations of the beginning of verse 22 vary slightly. However, when read in context the verse always contains the same message: God has shown mercy in the midst of judgement - not because the people deserve it, but because of His great, unceasing, and steadfast love:

Scripture Memory, Week 25, Day 2

Pray, then read Lamentations 3:22-23 aloud 3 times.

The writer of Lamentations does something in chapter 3 that he does not do in the other four laments: he refers frequently to other passages of Scripture. Included are references to Job, Psalms, Isaiah, and Hosea. Those passages of Scripture helped him verbalize his sufferings as he prayed.

Those passages of Scripture also reminded the writer who God is: loving, compassionate, merciful, faithful. He is just, and therefore punishes sin and rebellion. He is also forgiving, redeeming those who turn to Him. Remembering those things gave the writer hope.

Scripture Memory, Week 25, Day 1

A survivor’s account of Jerusalem’s fall to Babylon as a result of sin, Lamentations contains 5 poems which call attention to suffering and are a means of expressing and processing deep emotion.

Pray, then read Lamentations 1-5.

Chapter 1.

…What are God’s people encouraged to do?

Chapter 3.

Pray. Read Jeremiah 29:13 aloud. Write it. Read it.

And at the end of 70 years of exile in Babylon, the Israelites began to turn to God and to seek Him, just as God had said in Jeremiah 29:13.

Scripture Memory, Week 24, Day 1

Pray, then read Jeremiah 29:13 aloud 3x.

Jeremiah 29:13 - “‘And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.’”

Jeremiah 29 is a letter of encouragement sent to Jewish exiles in Babylon. It tells them what the length of their exile will be and how they should live during that time. It gives some warnings against false prophets. It also gives the people hope for the future. Verse 13 is a conditional promise from the passage on hope.

Scripture Memory, Week 23, Day 3

Pray. Read Isaiah 41:10 aloud. Write it. Read it.

The first command in this verse is “do not fear”. The second command is: D__ N___ B__ D_____.

Some translations render this command as “do not be afraid”. However, the Hebrew word used here isn’t the same as the one used in the first command. Its takes on a slightly different tone of “ do not be dismayed, distressed, broken in spirit, or anxiously look around you”. Today we would say “don’t panic”, or “don’t freak out”. We might tell Peter, “Don’t look at the wind and the waves!”
