Scripture Memory, Week 23, Day 3

Pray. Read Isaiah 41:10 aloud. Write it. Read it.

The first command in this verse is “do not fear”. The second command is: D__ N___ B__ D_____.

Some translations render this command as “do not be afraid”. However, the Hebrew word used here isn’t the same as the one used in the first command. Its takes on a slightly different tone of “ do not be dismayed, distressed, broken in spirit, or anxiously look around you”. Today we would say “don’t panic”, or “don’t freak out”. We might tell Peter, “Don’t look at the wind and the waves!”

Read Matthew 14:22-33.
…What was the weather like as evening came? Vs 24
…What did the disciples see during the fourth watch of the night? Vs 25
…How did they react? Vs 26
…What did Jesus say to them? Vs 27
…What did Peter do? Vs 28-29
…What happened when Peter looked at the wind and the waves? Vs 30
…What did Jesus immediately do? Vs 31

Pray Psalm 27:1-3 and Psalm 46:1-3.

Scripture Memory, Week 23, Day 2

Pray. Read Isaiah 41:10 aloud. Write it. Read it.

There are two commands given in this verse. The first command is: D__ N___ F____.

It has been rumored that the Bible says “do not fear” 365 times. While that isn’t true, it does say “do not fear”, “fear not”, or “do not be afraid” close to 100 times. Of course, saying it one time would be enough. If The Lord can calm a storm on the sea with a word, surely He can calm the storm in us!

Read Mark 4:35-41.
…What happened when the boats set out?
…What did the disciples say in verse 38 that showed they were afraid?
…What did Jesus say to the wind and the sea?
…What happened as a result?
…What did Jesus say to the disciples in verse 40?
…How was the fear that the disciples had in verse 41 different than the fear they had in verse 38?
…If Jesus cared for the disciples in this way, is He capable of caring for you?
…Do you trust Him?

Pray Psalm 65:5-8 and Psalm 89:8-9.

Scripture Memory, Week 23, Day 1

Pray, then read Isaiah 41:10 aloud 3x.

Isaiah 41:10 - “‘So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed [distressed, broken in spirit, discouraged, look about anxiously], for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.’”

Isaiah 41 is God’s word of encouragement to Israel (and to us). In this chapter, God tells of His sovereignty, eternal nature, divine strength, righteousness, justice, help for His people, and mighty works. He tells the people who He is: The LORD, your God, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, the God of Israel, Jacob’s King.

Read Isaiah chapters 40-44. Write down any words of encouragement you find that are given to God’s people.

Write a prayer thanking God specifically for who He reveals Himself to be in chapter 41.

Read Exodus 17:8-16.
…What did Moses name the altar, and why?

Read Numbers 21:4-9.
…What did the Lord instruct Moses to set up as a standard, or banner, when the people were plagued because of sin?
…What did it represent?

Read John 3:14-17.
…To what event did Christ compare His “lifting up”, or crucifixion?
…What was His purpose as a standard, or banner, for the people?
…How did this banner reveal God’s love?

Truly, the Lord is a banner over us - a banner of love! By His love He protects us, leads us, cares for us, and gives us victory over sin!
