I was telling my husband about a dream I had about a week ago where I fell asleep in the kids church room during service and when I woke up, my class was missing. I thought, oh no! I’m in trouble now! Thankfully, I woke up for real and realized that was not the case. Whew! Don’t worry, parents. Your kids will always be safe! He told me I have funny stress dreams. He always dreams about fighting to protect himself or our family. That got me thinking about our fight or flight response. I’d like to think I’m brave enough to fight, but we never know until we faced with it. That led me to another thought on a spiritual level. Our “praise Him anyway” response. Our spiritual fight or flight is one of two things: we lean into God, or we distance ourselves from God.

Psalm 34:1 says, “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” When the Lord is at the center of our lives, we are less tempted to choose “flight.” We know of His goodness, provision, and promises. So, we choose to fight. We praise Him anyway. We fight our battles on our knees and in praise. “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-4. When you want to run, praise Him. When you feel scared, worried, confused…praise Him. When you don’t feel like it, PRAISE HIM anyway. Fight with the power of the Spirit that lives inside you.

All of us have been in situations when we need advice. King Rehoboam faced a pivotal moment and sought the counsel of others. Let’s take a look. 1 Kings 12:7-8 (NKJV) “7 And they spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.” 8 But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.” The king rejected wise counsel, and consequences would divide the kingdom and ruin his life. Let’s identify a few ways we can avoid outcomes like this: 1. Don’t let what you want to hear speak louder than what you need to hear. When the king don’t like the advice he just looked for more until it aligned with the selfish motives of his heart. Paul said in the end times people will surround themselves with teachers that tickle their ears… 2. Choose your advisers wisely. The spiritually seasoned provided good counsel. His buddies were arrogant and foolish. A seasoned believer will be a blessing to your life. 3. Make choices that benefit the majority. Don’t play favorites. Don’t be selfish. The elders told the king to serve the people and it would go well with him. Today nothing has changed. Honoring, respecting, and valuing others despite our differences is non-negotiable in the Kingdom of God. There we have it- together we thank Jesus that He advises us through His word. Let’s avoid mistakes like Rehoboam by listening carefully and walking humbly with our God.

Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

- Psalm 103:1-5

It’s a new day. Let’s get started with positive steps and the right frame of mind. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? 1 Corinthians 6:19. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. You are a child of God. Let’s honor Him and build a healthy life by taking small steps and actions throughout the day: Water: Drink one glass first thing in the morning. Rehydrate your body before the day begins. Walk: Take one 10-minute walk. Let your feet touch the ground and get moving. Meal: Sit down for one meal. Put away screens and take time to taste your food. Breath: Take one deep breath. Let your shoulders drop and unclench your jaw. Truth: Give an honest answer when asked how you are. You don't have to carry burdens alone. Connection: Reach out to one person. Remind yourself you are not in this alone and neither are they. Sleep: Go to sleep 20 minutes earlier. Put the phone down and close your eyes. Start with a forward step . Not perfection, not all at once. One choice at a time is enough for today. Tomorrow, you do it again. Be blessed, He is with you.

Pentecost was not just a moment… it was a promise fulfilled.

Jesus poured out His Spirit on the Church, bringing freedom, power, restoration, and new life.
- Be restored at the well.
- Be released from religion.
- Be raised as a new creation.

God is still pouring out His Spirit today.
His fire still transforms hearts. His presence still changes lives.

“How much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.” — Luke 11:13

Receive the gift. Draw near. Let Him make you new.

May is a beautiful reminder that growth takes time. Flowers are blooming, days are getting longer, and all around us we see signs of life and renewal. Yet beneath that beauty is there is a quiet truth…that growth often happens slowly, beneath the surface, long before we can see it. Galatians 6:9 encourages us, “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” In seasons where progress feels invisible, God is still at work. Roots are forming. Strength is building. Faith is deepening.

Maybe this month finds you in a waiting season - whether your praying for breakthrough, healing, direction, or change. It can be easy to feel discouraged when answers don’t come quickly. But just like a garden, what God is growing in you…cannot be rushed.

Stay rooted in Him. Keep showing up in prayer. Keep trusting His promises, even when you don’t see immediate results. God’s timing is never late, and His plans are always purposeful. This May, let’s shift our focus from outcomes to obedience. Instead of asking, “Why isn’t this happening yet?” let’s ask, “God, what are You teaching me right now?”

Because in every season of waiting, He is growing something beautiful within you.

Is there something you’re currently trusting God with in this season? Share in the comments…whether something specific or unspoken, we’d love to pray with you!
