Christmas Cards for Our Troops

This year, GSLC will be sending cards to Africa, 1,400 men and women who will not be home for Christmas. Wouldn’t you like to send a Christmas Card to them, just to give them a little bit of cheer?

We are collecting cards to ship to our troops. It can be a homemade card, a store bought card, or even one that came to you in the mail, unsolicited. It must not have glitter on it. (Glitter gets everywhere, especially on uniforms, and is a problem for the troops.)

You can address the cards to “A Very Special Person.” Some people have asked what to write on the inside of the card. Use your own words and:

(1) Thank them for their dedication and service and for keeping us safe; (2) Tell them you are praying for their safety, and for their safe return home; (3) Wish them and their family a Merry Christmas.

You need not write all of the greetings. These are just some suggestions. Please do not seal the envelopes. Just slip the card under the flap of the envelope. We will be stamping the cards with Good Shepherd’s name and address so they will know who sent the card to them. Drop them off in the office in a special box we have just for the cards.

,
We need to have your Christmas Cards no later that November 1st. I know that seems far off, but believe me, getting this many cards written and sent takes a lot of time. You will be amazed at how good it will make you feel, and I know it will make our deployed troops feel even better.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: CHURCH CAMPUS CLOSURE – TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2026

Earlier this evening, we were notified of an issue involving an electrical transformer on our church campus that requires immediate attention from PECO. Crews have been dispatched to address the situation, and necessary repairs are expected to continue overnight.

Out of an abundance of caution, and with the safety and well-being of our Preschool students, staff, Senior Fellowship participants, congregation members, and visitors as our highest priority, the entire Good Shepherd Lutheran Church campus will be CLOSED on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

We understand that this unexpected closure may cause inconvenience and sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work to ensure a safe environment for all.

We are remaining in communication with PECO and will provide updates as additional information becomes available, including confirmation that the campus can safely reopen.

Thank you for your understanding as we place the safety of our church family and community first.

In Sunday’s first reading God uses the Gentile ruler Cyrus to accomplish divine purposes. When the Pharisees try to trap Jesus, he tells them to give the emperor what belongs to him and to God what belongs to God. To gather for worship reminds us that our ultimate allegiance is to God rather than to any earthly authority. Created in the image of God, we offer our entire selves in the service of God and for the sake of the world.

Please join us Sunday at 9 am for service. The service will also be live-streamed to our YouTube channel, https://youtube.com/.
