UPDATE WE’RE MOVING INSIDE: due to weather, our picnic will be in the Tribune tomorrow!

On May 24th from 11a-1p, instead of our normal gatherings at the Tribune, we will be meeting at Leeper Park for our SBCC Spring Picnic. We won’t have a strict schedule – our goal is to be able to get to know each other! Lunch will be provided and there will be gluten free and vegetarian options. Please bring lawn chairs and feel free to bring lawn games!

We also have a chance to partner with the South Bend Medical Foundation for a Blood Drive from 10:30a-1p. There are a few walk in slots, but if you know you want to give blood, please RSVP for a time.

If you’d like to donate towards this picnic to help cover food and park rental, you can head to our give page and give towards our general fund (suggested donation of $15). In case of rain: The picnic will still happen, but just inside the Tribune! We’ll keep you updated through social media and our text updates.

For more information, head to our website: https://southbendcitychurch.com/sbcc-picnic-at-leeper-park/

From now through April 4, Stations in the Street, featuring art from Scott Erickson, will be posted around downtown South Bend. This twist on the traditional Stations of the Cross allows us to not only reflect on the life and death of Jesus, but on our community within the city and the world at large. While this is an open, individual practice that you can engage in at any point during Holy Week, there will also be a communal walk with other church communities on Good Friday at 10a (meet at the First Presbyterian North Entrance).

To find the locations of the stations, or to find a Google Maps list for live directions, take a look at the reflection guide: https://drive.google.com/file/u/2/d/10qhByCuWRCYMSEWa7jE2Sj6a9XuJn3ft/view

As a community of grace and peace, following Jesus in the generosity and justice of God, Black History Month is an important moment for us to deepen our understanding of our country’s legacy of racial injustice. This work isn’t merely for us to look backward; it allows us to understand how the world of today was built, and to consider our part in making peace.

This year we encourage you to join some trusted neighbors during their events which range from movie screenings to concerts to book launches to poetry to book clubs and more. For more information about these events, where they’re held, and appropriate ticketing, head to this link: https://southbendcitychurch.com/black-history-month/

This Lent we have a workshop taking place on Thursdays from 7-8:30p from February 26-March 26 (with the exception of March 12). The Cross Through the Ages: Artistic Shifts that Inform Our Faith is a workshop facilitated by medieval scholar, Dr. Macie Sweet, guiding us through learning the various shifts in the depiction of the cross and how it informs our faith.

You can listen to a conversation with Dr. Sweet on our podcast now or you can head to this link for more info/registration: https://southbendcitychurch.com/2026-lent-workshop/

Each year, the people of SBCC give above and beyond our regular commitments to fund a Christmas offering that celebrates the generosity of God. This is our final report on the incredible contributions made to this years offering. All of the money given will go towards beauty and flourishing in our neighborhood (St. Margaret's House and exterior enhancements at the Tribune), kindred communities beyond South Bend (Redeemer Central Church in Belfast and Peacemaking Pilgrimage scholarships), and increased financial stability here at SBCC.
