Joseph had been badly hurt by his brothers.

They had hated him, sold him and left him to suffer. Years later, they stood in front of him needing food, not knowing he was the powerful man they were asking for help.

Joseph could have made them pay.

It would have been easy to justify it. Most people would probably have understood.

But Joseph saw more than their cruelty. He saw that God had been at work, even through the parts of his life that had been painful and unfair.

He told them, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.“
That does not make betrayal small. It does not make suffering easy. But it does show us something about God’s mercy, and His ability to bring good out of places we never would have chosen.

Ezekiel is not an easy book.

It begins with God’s people far from home, living in exile in Babylon. Jerusalem is under judgement. The people have lost so much, and it looks as though God might have left them to it.

Then Ezekiel sees God’s glory.

That is a huge moment. God is there, with His people, even in exile.

There are strange visions in Ezekiel. There are serious warnings. There are parts that can feel hard to read. But there is also this steady hope running through it: God has not walked away.

He is still speaking. He is still working. He is still calling His people back.
