The seventy-two came back excited about what happened when they went out in Jesus’ name. Jesus celebrated with them, then gave them something steadier to hold onto: “Rejoice because your names are registered in heaven” (Luke 10:20).

Sometimes we pray and see a breakthrough. Sometimes we pray and keep waiting. Our place with Jesus does not rise and fall with the outcome.

So keep loving people. Keep praying. And remember whose you are.

How can you pray for your pastor this week? Here are five places to start:

Protection: Pray for God’s protection over your pastor and their family. Ask Him to guard them from the enemy’s attacks and give them strength when ministry is costly.

Purity: Pray that your pastor would have clean hands and a pure heart. Ask God to reveal anything hidden, keep their heart tender, and surround them with trusted people who can speak honestly into their life.

Presence: Pray that your pastor would encounter God’s presence each day. May they personally experience the love they preach about, and may time with Jesus sustain their ministry.

Power: Pray for the Holy Spirit to strengthen your pastor and work through them in ways they could never accomplish on their own. Ask God for miracles in their life and in the lives of those they serve.

Passion: Pray that their love for Jesus and His Church would keep burning brightly. Ask God to care for their emotional and mental health and root their identity deeply in Christ.

Take a moment today to pray for your pastor by name. 🙏

Jesus told his disciples to pray for workers for the harvest. Then he sent them out.

Prayer and action belong together.

Think of someone you’ll see today. Listen to what’s happening in their life. If they share a need, ask whether you can pray with them. Offer practical help where you can. Tell them why you have hope in Jesus.

You don’t have to manufacture a miracle. You can take a step of faith and trust God with what happens next.

Jesus taught his followers to announce that God’s Kingdom is near—and to care for people in ways that showed what that means.

We see glimpses of the Kingdom now, even as we wait for Jesus to make all things new. That gives us reason to pray with hope and to stay with people through pain.

This week, ask God to show you one person you can encourage, serve, or offer to pray for. Then take the step.

What if the Kingdom of God isn’t only something we’re waiting for?

Jesus sent his followers to heal the sick and tell people, “The Kingdom of God is near you now” (Luke 10:9).

We still long for the day Jesus returns and makes everything new. But we can turn to him today. We can ask him to move today. And we can share his love with the people in front of us today.

Where do you need to remember that God is near?
