First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown

First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown Sunday Worship Service is at 10:00 a.m. The First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown is a church with a difference. Our church is not only old; it is open.

Our sanctuary is a historical landmark for the whole community. We have grown up with Smithtown, but with blessings come responsibilities. Our buildings are open seven days a week for worship and service. Community organizations utilize our facilities as much as our congregation does. We see ourselves as more than that old church on the corner. We believe we are on the corner of the love of God an

d the love of neighbor. Faith in Jesus Christ is extremely important to us. We believe that faith is not only spoken but lived. We are an open church, not only open to the community, but open to those on a journey. Ours is a welcoming family that has a big heart for those who are hurting, have lost their way and want to start over. We are certainly not perfect, and, for that reason, we cherish God's love and grace. We seek to welcome others as we ourselves have been welcomed by Jesus Christ. We are aware that many people are moving into our community and relocating to this area. We are excited to share the good news of the gospel. Our doors are open. Come visit one of our services and taste our hospitality. Together we may discover more to life on this wonderful journey of faith.

Dear friends,
I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend! We enjoyed time with children and grandchildren. And the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Thanks be to God!

Here is a link to my message from last Sunday when we marked World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation at First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown, NY. This is Daniel, which is part of my Amazing Children of the Bible Series:

https://pastorkaren.org/2026/09/08/amazing-children-of-the-bible-series-daniel/

Let us pray. Holy God, thank you for your beautiful creation, including human beings, so wonderfully made. Stir us to pray for and care for your creation, to be like Daniel and Wendell Berry, and live out the convictions of our faith. May we never give up. May our small voices join louder ones calling for us to live together in love and seek to bring healing and wholeness to our broken world. In Christ we pray. Amen.

Peace,
Pastor Karen

“As we observe this World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (Sept. 1, 2026), we are once again invited to contemplate the gift of life and to cherish the earth that sustains it, for they are tangible ways of offering praise to our Creator.” -- Pope Leo (OSV News photo/Bob Roller)

Rally Day is coming up on Sept. 13 at First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown! Sunday School begins after a commissioning of the teachers and helpers and a blessing of the backpacks!! Children are urged to bring their backpacks to church. New this year is a potluck brunch. Will you be able to come and bring something to share? I am looking forward to it! God bless our young families as they seek to raise their children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

My Amazing Children of the Bible Series continues with "Little Maid of Israel":

https://pastorkaren.org/2026/09/01/amazing-children-of-the-bible-series-little-maid-of-israel/

Holy God, we thank you for loving the small, seemingly insignificant people of this world, such as the Little Maid of Israel, a slave, whose faith, hope, bravery, and compassion led to the healing of the Syrian general in the waters of the Jordan. Help us to love our neighbors and our enemies, as the Little Maid models for us. Grant us wisdom and guide us as we seek to nurture Karina Sabella and all the children in our church in the faith, hope, and love of your Son. And thank you for the small, amazing creatures, such as the hummingbird, that remind us of your everlasting presence with us, that when you seem to be invisible to us, you may be moving faster than we can see. In Christ we pray. Amen.

Peace,

Pastor Karen

Hello dear friends!
My message series, Amazing Children of the Bible, continues with "Josiah" :

https://pastorkaren.org/2026/08/25/amazing-children-of-the-bible-series-josiah/

Gracious God, thank you for your mercy for sinners and your faithfulness, always keeping your promises to us. Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, when we couldn’t find our way back to you and were lost in sin. Stir us to know you more through your Word, with its power to transform hearts and minds. Thank you for King Josiah, who, as a teenager, listened to your Book of Law and was courageous enough to obey your voice, cleanse the temple, destroy the idols and altars, and share your Law with your people. Draw near to us, Lord, and make us more like your Son as we seek to be faithful role models to the young people you have placed in our lives. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Peace,
