Together for His Glory -- Serving, Growing, Shining
Reading: Ephesians 4:11-16; 1 Peter 2:9
Paul describes the body growing into maturity as each member does its own special work. Peter declares that the church has been called out of darkness to show the goodness of God to the world around it.
Devotional: God did not save you only from something. He saved you for something. He rescued you from darkness and placed you into his marvelous light so that his goodness might be seen in and through you -- not just individually, but together. Think of a choir. Each voice is different. Some are high, some are low. Some carry the melody, others provide the harmony. But when every voice submits to the same conductor and sings together, something happens that no single voice could produce alone. That is the church at its best. That is what God is building. Every act of service, every word of encouragement, every moment of genuine love between believers is a note in that song. Do not withhold your voice. The song needs you.
Reflection Question: How are you currently contributing to the spiritual growth of those around you? Is there a way you have been settling for attendance when God is calling you toward active, invested membership?
Practical Application: This week, move beyond simply showing up. Pray specifically for two or three people in your church by name. Look for one opportunity to serve in a way that costs you something -- time, comfort, or effort -- and do it gladly, as unto the Lord.
