Experiencing tough times?

This we know, that His love is greater than ours possibly can be, and Jesus so loved them [that] He gave His life to redeem them; then let them rest, and let your heart go out more decidedly after Jesus to supply every soul hunger, every want.

Whatever may be your circumstances, however dark and mysterious may be the ways of Providence, though the path may be through the deep waters, and trials and bereavements may afflict again and again, the assurance still comes, “all things work together for good to them that love God.” [Romans 8:28.]

“I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” [2 Timothy 1:12.]

Old Wisdom, New Urgency—Ellen White Knew.🔥

Dear young reader, seek a thorough preparation to meet Jesus, that when he appears you may exclaim with joy, “Lo this is our God, we have waited for him, and he will save us.” Eternal life will then be yours, and you will be a partaker with Christ of his glory, ever to hear his glorious approving voice, and behold his lovely person.
Are you preparing for Christ's coming? Do you, in all your actions, seek to glorify God? I have greatly feared that many of you who profess the religion of Christ are careless, and will be found wanting when the destiny of every one shall be fixed. Jesus is now pleading for you in the Sanctuary. You can now come to him and he will give you strength. He will wash away your sins if you truly repent of them, and humbly and earnestly seek his pardon. He knows your weakness, and is ready to have compassion upon you, although you may have sinned much against him.
Some of you may have faults that it seems hard for you to correct and overcome. You may feel discouraged at times, and think that it is impossible to live out religion; but do not give over the effort.

What work does God value most?

Every work is of value as God puts His estimate upon it, and not after human finite measurement. The work in every branch, every department, is valued by the piety, and purity of principle, the sanctified ability brought into the work of God. If that work is done with a self-sufficiency, if pride, if self-esteem is woven into the work, it possesses but little real merit with God. If all his work for the Master is done in the Spirit of Christ in meekness, in lowliness of mind, with an eye single to the glory of God, with willing integrity, then there is value, durability and perfection in the work, for it bears the divine credentials. And shall man have any part of the glory? Shall man be exalted? Shall man be honored? Said the apostle Paul, “Ye are laborers together with God.” [1 Corinthians 3:9.] “Without Me,” says Christ, “ye can do nothing.” [John 15:5.] Christ adopts our nature into a personal subsistence with His own divinity if man will accept this vital relationship. He is the center of attraction.

Tips for family worship

The [family worship] service should be short. When a long chapter is read and a long prayer offered, the service becomes wearisome, and a sense of relief is felt at its close. God is dishonored when it is made dry and irksome, when it is so tedious, so lacking in interest, that the children dread it. There is no reason why the hour of worship should not be the most interesting and enjoyable hour of the day. Questions may be asked, and a few earnest, timely remarks made. A song of praise may be sung. The prayer offered should be short and pointed. In simple, earnest words let the one who leads in prayer praise God for His goodness and ask Him for help. From time to time let the service be varied. As circumstances permit, let the children unite in reading and in prayer. Fathers and mothers, make the hour of worship intensely interesting. A little thought given to preparation for this hour will enable you to make it both pleasant and profitable.

Your life is a Sermon your Children never miss!

Every leaf and flower, with their varied tints, perfuming the air, teach them that God is love. All that is good and lovely and beautiful in this world speaks to them of the love of our Heavenly Father. The character of God they may discern in his created works. Parents should improve every opportunity to impress their children by connecting in their minds God with the things of nature, that they may look up through nature to nature's God. Lead your children to regard God as the Creator of all things, and to reverence and fear him who is exalted above the heavens, and to love him because he first loved them. The evidences of his love they have on every hand, speaking to them through the glories of nature. Your temporal matters may be neglected rather than the heart wants and culture of the minds of your children.

—The Health Reformer, August 1, 1872, par. 10

It is the nicest work ever assumed by men and women to deal with youthful minds. The greatest care should be taken in the education of youth to vary the manner of instruction so as to call forth the high and noble powers of the mind. Parents, and teachers of schools, are certainly disqualified to educate children properly, if they have not first learned the lesson of self-control, patience, forbearance, gentleness, and love.

—The Health Reformer, September 1, 1872, par. 1

Want to be happy? Live for others...

In order to be happy ourselves, we must live to make others happy. We must yield our possessions, our talents, and our affections, in grateful devotion to Christ, and in this way we may find happiness here and immortality hereafter.

The most trying experiences in the Christian life may be the most blessed. The special providences of the dark hours may encourage the soul in the future attacks of Satan, and equip the soul to stand most fiery trials. The trial of your faith is more precious than gold. But in order to endure the test, you must have that faith, that abiding confidence in God, that will not be disturbed by the arguments and temptations of the deceiver.

Take the Lord at his word. Study the promises, and appropriate them as you have need. “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Happy is the man, who, when tempted, finds his soul rich in the knowledge of the Scriptures, who finds shelter beneath the promises of God. “Thy word,” said the psalmist, “have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

Living in the Last Days? The Evidence is Clear!

Jesus declares: “There shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations” (Luke 21:25; Matthew 24:29; Mark 13:24-26; Revelation 6:12-17). Those who behold these harbingers of His coming are to “know that it is near, even at the doors” (Matthew 24:33).

The nations are in unrest. Times of perplexity are upon us. Men’s hearts are failing them for fear of the things that are coming upon the earth. But those who believe in God will hear His voice amid the storm, saying, “It is I; be not afraid.”

Strange and eventful history is being recorded in the books of heaven—events which it was declared should shortly precede the great day of God. Everything in the world is in an unsettled state.
