Mother’s Unwavering Faith - 2
Anju Lall

The prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up... James 5:15 KJV

During a follow-up consultation, the senior physician conducted another thorough physical examination of my sister but was unable to locate the lump that had been clearly detected just two days earlier. Surprised and visibly puzzled by the sudden change, he reportedly exclaimed, “Arrey… kahaan chala gaya?” (“Oh, where did it go?”). The prominent swelling had completely disappeared. To the astonishment of the medical team, subsequent tests and medical reports also came back clear, showing no sign of abnormality.

For our family, this unexpected turn of events was far more than a medical mystery. My mother firmly believed it was divine intervention and often described Jesus as the ultimate healer who had restored my sister’s health in answer to sincere prayer. The timing of the recovery, following days of earnest family prayer and intercession, deeply strengthened our faith and gratitude toward God. Although the doctors remained perplexed by the rapid turnaround, our family recognized it as a profound blessing and an unforgettable testimony of hope and mercy.

My sister soon settled successfully into her new role and, by God’s grace, has experienced no related health issues since then.

This experience reminds us that even in moments of fear, uncertainty, and human limitation, God invites us to trust Him completely. Scripture reminds us of God’s enduring compassion and His invitation to seek Him in faith: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (Matthew 7:7 KJV)

Mother’s Unwavering Faith - 1
Anju Lall

“‘If you can?’” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Mark 9:23 NIV

January 2, 1984, marked a significant moment in our family’s life. My sister, who had always been a maternal figure to me, secured her first clerical position with the Department of Vigilance after completing her graduation and secretarial training at YMCA.

It was a joyful occasion for our family of five. However, during the mandatory pre-employment medical examination, doctors discovered a significant lump in her neck. With my parents’ healthcare background—especially my father’s role as Director of Orthopedics and Anatomy at Irwin Hospital (now Lok Nayak Hospital)—they immediately recognized the seriousness of the situation and sought urgent specialist evaluation.

Following several diagnostic screenings that consistently produced alarming findings, the medical team recommended surgery. As we faced the uncertainty of additional consultations, the pressure intensified because my sister had a strict deadline to submit her medical clearance for her new job. The weight of the situation left our family deeply shaken and fearful.

Amid this crisis, we continued our nightly family prayer routine between 8:30 and 9:00 PM. My mother regularly listened to Christian messages on the radio. During one such broadcast, both my mother and sister were deeply moved, praying earnestly through tears and with unwavering faith for divine intervention.

When circumstances appear overwhelming, sincere prayer and steadfast faith can bring peace, hope, and strength to endure. God often works in ways beyond human understanding, calling believers to rely not only on medical expertise or worldly solutions, but also on His grace and mercy.

A Journey of Pain, Faith, and Restoration
Sybil Paul

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26 NIV

From January through June of 2025, I walked through one of the most challenging seasons of my life. I faced several health issues that led to three surgeries, each one leaving me weak, exhausted, and unsure of how I would recover. Along with this, I endured acute knee pain that made every step difficult. Even simple movements required effort, and walking became a daily struggle.

But through it all, God never left my side.

When my body felt fragile, His strength carried me. When fear whispered its doubts, He covered me with His peace. When I couldn’t see the path ahead, God gently guided me forward. He was present in every hospital room, every night of discomfort, every prayer whispered through tears, and every slow step toward healing.

Today, I testify that God is still a Healer. He restored what pain tried to take away. He renewed my strength, uplifted my spirit, and gave me hope again. The improvements in my health are not just medical progress—they are evidence of God’s mercy, power, and faithfulness in my life.

As I look toward the year ahead, my heart is filled with desire and determination that it will be a productive, purposeful, and blessed year. I trust that the same God who carried me through these months will continue to lead me into new growth, restored strength, and deeper purpose. A scripture that has anchored me during this journey is: “ ‘But I will restore you to health and heal your wound’, declares the Lord”. (Jeremiah 30:17 NIV).

I give God all the glory for what He has done and what He will continue to do in the days ahead.

Grace When it's Needed - 3
Gladwin Mathews

“But whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.” Proverbs 1:33, NIV

Finally, I passed the Vienna town and headed towards the Tysons Corner. As I was approaching my green light signal and was almost in the middle of the crossing box, another driver coming from the opposite direction abruptly made a left turn in front of me. I was not expecting this on my right of way. Just then I felt my head being pushed back to the seat and ‘Booooom’, we collided and our cars spun.

The next thing I felt was hot smoke on my face and in front of my eyes. The air bag had deployed. Smoke filled the dashboard. I looked at my hands and touched my face, then looked at my hands again, they were clean. I was not hurt.

Traffic from all four sides came to a halt. Another diver, a good Samaritan, came running to me and said, ‘Take your important documents and leave the car.’

Composed and assuring myself that I was okay, I took my Bible and left the car, thanking God for His grace and protection. I stood up straight, checked myself again and walked across the street and waited. Police and ambulances showed up within 3 minutes and checked on both of us. I was safe!

Recalling the lesson that was on my mind entitled ‘Memorials of Grace’, I know that this incident will always be a memorial of God’s grace in my life when I needed it the most at this time! God had saved me and not a scratch came on me! Praise God for His miraculous grace!

Grace When it's Needed - 2
Gladwin Mathews

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble". Psalm 46:1, NKJV

Normally I wake up around 6 am. If the alarm doesn’t go off, I have a back-up alarm – Charlie our dog. He will wake me up just around 6 am or before by gently stroking his paw on my face, telling me that he wants to go out. It’s a daily routine for both of us. But the Sabbath wake up time is about 7 am, and Charlie also understands it.

The Sabbath morning of October 18, 2025 was just like any other Sabbath Day. I woke up at 7 am, took a little walk with Charlie in the backyard and came back in to finish few important chores before I could get ready and head to SASDAC church.

After getting ready, I asked ‘Alexa’ to play old Hymns by Jim Reeves and then sat on the couch to take a last quick glance on the Sabbath School lesson – 3, Memorials of Grace.

After having that last quick glance and a short prayer, I headed towards SASDAC Church enroute on my regular Chain Bridge Road towards Tysons Corner in Virginia to take the Beltway 495 towards Silver Spring, MD.

Though it was the weekend, people were out on the road and it was regular traffic. Passing through Vienna town, there was a little crowd on either side of the Chain Bridge Road, protesting and expressing their grievances through placards.

I passed through the town of Vienna slowly and cautiously, with thoughts lingering on my mind about God’s grace in my life and the lesson – Memorials of Grace! Did such thoughts ever pass through your mind while driving?

Grace When it's Needed - 1
Gladwin Mathews

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you…" Isaiah 43:2

In my High School days at Roorkee, every student had to enroll himself in the student work program. Through this program we earned a scholarship and also learnt the dignity of labor!

The boys did campus cleaning, kitchen gardening, and mowing. The girls took care of their own hostel and helped in the cafeteria kitchen.

Me and my friends had to cut the fodder, load it on the bull-a-cart and bring it from the ‘Ghoom’ land to the dairy to feed the buffaloes. The ‘Ghoom’ land was between the famous River Ganges and a small tributary that flowed around it and then merged again. It was beautiful land in the shape of a small ship.

One summer day, we friends decided to swim across the river and then swim back before returning to the campus with the fodder. At the count of three, everyone jumped into the river but I was the last one to jump. When I pulled my head out of the water, I saw the rest far ahead of me. I looked to my right and left and saw no one. I got scared and panicked as the water current was taking me away from them. A quick thought flashed in my mind: to swim back. I made a u-turn and began to swim back towards the tributary which had less current and I prayed!

Pulling myself out of the water, with my limbs shaking vigorously, I thanked God for His saving grace! Recalling that incident, I am reminded and assured that it was possible because of God’s grace when I needed it the most!
