Today we celebrate the feast of St. John XXIII, a humble shepherd with a heart wide open to the world. May his legacy of peace, joy, and openness to the Holy Spirit inspire us to live the Gospel with courage and compassion.⁣
⁣
St. John XXIII, pray for us! 🙏
⁣
The parish on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville is named in his honor. He is also one of the 16 saints depicted on the dome of the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.⁣

A deacon shares in the mission of Christ and is ordained to be a witness to the Gospel through a life of service. Deacons bring the Gospel and the gift of themselves to soup kitchens, food banks, prisons, hospitals – serving in their parish and in the community.
⁣
A special collection to support diaconate formation will take place this weekend. In gratitude for our deacons serving in the diocese, and all those who may be discerning a call to the permanent diaconate, please consider supporting the Diocese of Knoxville’s deacon formation program.

If you’re familiar with the Knights of Columbus, you more than likely know who Blessed Michael McGivney is. Often called the “Apostle of Spiritual Brotherhood,” Father McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882. Learn how a simple, parish priest laid the foundations for an international organization of roughly 2 million members.

Job No. 1 for a Catholic priest is to save souls as he celebrates the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and administers the sacraments, primarily the Eucharist.
⁣
There are occasions when priests are called on to save lives, too.
⁣
That is just what happened to Father Michael Willey on July 30. The associate pastor of All Saints Parish in Knoxville was taking an afternoon run not too far from St. Thérèse of Lisieux Church in Cleveland, where his family lives, when tragedy struck and divine intervention stepped in.

Young Catholic Professionals is a national organization under the patronage of St. Joseph dedicated to building a network of young Catholic professionals who can deepen their faith, succeed in their careers, and navigate the relationship between the two.
⁣
The organization seeks to evangelize through professional connections, with the goals of deepening the faith of those who are already Catholic and connecting with and drawing in those who do not yet know the Church.

“Jesus, I trust in You!”
⁣
Today we celebrate St. Faustina Kowalska, the “Apostle of Divine Mercy,” whose life and writings remind us of the boundless mercy and love of Jesus.
⁣
Like St. Faustina, we are called to place our trust in Christ and become instruments of mercy to those around us.
⁣
St. Faustina, pray for us! 🙏
⁣
A statue of St. Faustina can be found in the narthex of the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, a man who embraced poverty, loved God’s creation, and shared the Gospel with radical joy. This year also marks the 800th anniversary of his “Transitus” (death) and is being observed as a Franciscan Jubilee.
⁣
May the example of St. Francis remind us to see all of creation as a gift from God and to care for our common home with gratitude, humility, and love.
⁣
St. Francis, pray for us! 🙏
⁣
The Diocese of Knoxville has two parishes named after St. Francis: St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Fairfield Glade and St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Townsend. He is also one of the 16 saints depicted on the dome of the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Did you know the liturgy has its own language?
⁣
Pope Benedict XVI said, “By its very nature, the liturgy operates on different levels of communication which enable it to engage the whole human person.”
⁣
In his latest column, Father Randy Stice looks at how the Mass employs postures, gestures, movement, and more in its dialogue between God and His children.

Today we celebrate the feast of the Little Flower, St. Thérèse of Lisieux. A humble Carmelite nun and Doctor of the Church, her "little way" of love, trust, and simplicity has inspired millions to serve God through their everyday actions. 🌹⁣
⁣
St. Thérèse of Lisieux, pray for us! 🙏
⁣
The Diocese of Knoxville has two parishes named after this inspiring saint: St. Therese Parish in Clinton and St. Therese of Lisieux Parish in Cleveland.
