From time to time, folks ask about old photos, slides, and videos from the early days of our church. Several years ago, I (Susan Morgan Cross) posted a number of old 8 mm videos that had been digitized after the passing of my parents, Pastor Glenn and Dot Morgan. Here is one more that was digitized more recently. It is made up of just fragments of film that we found, but many of you will get at least a passing view of relatives or other folks you have known from the past. How thankful we are for faithful Christians who have gone on to Heaven before us! And as a beautiful song says, "May all who come behind us find us faithful!"

It was a special day at Community Baptist Church yesterday as we witnessed the baptism of one of our young people, Khloe Nolan. Several of her relatives were present to celebrate the occasion with her. We also had the great pleasure of a visit from our former pastor Mark Miller and his family, and they brought friends who presented several special songs during the service. Mark preached an excellent message from the second chapter of Ruth, warning us of the danger in looking for satisfaction in other fields (places) than where God has provided and encouraging us to stay in God’s field. He also extended an invitation to anyone present who needed to return to God’s field—or to come for the first time—to make that decision without delay. We are thankful for each one who was present.
As we reflect this week on the events that led our Savior to Calvary, let us remember that Jesus "steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem” (Luke 9:51b). He knew exactly what lay ahead for Him and He marched straight towards it. Steadfastly. Resolutely. Oh what love!

At various times throughout the year when we are working on a ministry project, we place our gifts at the foot of the cross. In this way, we remember that we are giving first and foremost to the Lord and that our giving to others is in His name and with the desire that hearts be drawn to His great love. Whether it is Shoe Box Gifts for Operation Christmas Child, new pairs of shoes for Shoes for Orphan Souls, simple gift bags for folks at Alexian Village, or any of the other projects we participate in, we want to help others know that Jesus is the greatest Gift a person could ever receive. He is truly the Gift that lasts forever! Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, who came to be our Savior. Let’s remember His willingness to be born into our world, His resolve to die in our place to pay our sin debt, and His power to defeat death by rising from the dead to give us life. As we consider such amazing love, may we willingly and gladly give Him our heart—our WHOLE heart! Happy Birthday, dear Jesus! And because of Jesus, Merry Christmas, everyone!

We were blessed to have our long-time missionary Mark Barnes with us in the service last Sunday morning. Mark and his wife Terry served in Papua New Guinea for many years then transitioned to being representatives of Ethnos 360 (formerly New Tribes Mission) in recruiting candidates to serve on the mission field. We also enjoyed special music presented by singing duo Calvary's Blend. Mark and Terry will be with us again this Sunday morning, October 8, and Calvary’s Blend will also be present to sing for us again. Everyone is welcome to join us for the service at 11:00 a.m. as we hear more about how God is reaching tribal people groups with the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Today is a very special day for Community Baptist Church. Our new steeple was delivered and installed! After many months of waiting, it was amazing that God allowed it to come on this particular day—Drew King’s birthday and the 6th month anniversary of Johnny Massengale’s passing. The steeple was given in memory of both of them. Thank you, Massengale family, for blessing our church with this beautiful steeple that will point people to our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! May we continue to faithfully give the gospel and live the gospel so that others may know Him!

This Sunday will be a very special day at our church. In the 11:00 a.m. service, Bill and Carrie (Stetson) Zhang will be giving a presentation about their life and work in China. Carrie grew up in France and is the daughter of Glenda and Paul Stetson and granddaughter of Glenn and Dot Morgan (who helped start Community Baptist Church back in 1954). Carrie has lived and taught in China for nearly 20 years. Carrie and Bill and their two daughters, Dianna (age 8) and Aimee (age 3), will present special music in English and Chinese. Glenda and Paul will be present (from France) as well as their other daughter Becky Gr***de (from Mauritius) and their son Rob and his family (from the Atlanta area). Other special guests will also be present. All are welcome to attend. Hope to see you there!

Yesterday we had the memorial service for Johnny "Smokey" Massengale. A great crowd was present to pay their respects and offer support to the family. Eddie Harris, Mark Miller, and Larry Miller all did a wonderful job conducting the service, sharing memories of Johnny's life and of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Brother Larry spoke from John 3:16 to share the gospel message. Though sorrow comes when death separates us from our loved ones, it is a temporary sorrow for those who have placed their faith in Jesus as their personal Savior. We will be reunited one day and spend eternity together! If you have not yet realized your need for a Savior, we encourage you to consider the words of Jesus Christ, who said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6)

Tomorrow we will have our dear missionaries with us one last time before they return to their fields of service. Paul and Glenda Stetson have served in France for nearly 40 years, and Pascal and Becky Gr***de have served in Mauritius for 9 years. Please join us for this special service at 11:00 a.m. Glenda will be playing the piano and Pascal will bring the morning message. Let's encourage our missionaries in their ongoing efforts to reach others with the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ!

Our missionaries Pascal and Becky Gr***de will be with us tomorrow in the 11:00 a.m. service. They have served since 2013 in Pascal's home country of Mauritius, a tiny island nation located 500 miles off the coast of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.
Becky is the daughter of our missionaries Glenda and Paul Stetson and granddaughter of Glenn and Dot Morgan. She was born and raised on the mission field of France. Pascal and Becky have five children: Liam, Adrien, Ashlen, Havva, and Gabriel. All are welcome to come see their presentation of their missionary work in Mauritius and hear Pascal bring the morning message. We pray that God will continue to use them in a mighty way to draw Mauritians to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and to help them grow in their daily walk with Him.
