Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church This page is updated with the latest activities and announcements for the Shepherd of the Valley Luth

We are a congregation that believes in the Triune God: the Father who has created all things and loves us, Jesus the Son who has given us forgiveness of our sins by his sacrifice on the cross, and the Holy Spirit who works faith in us through God's Word and the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper. We rely on the love of Jesus Christ, and we want to share it with our guests, our community, and our world.

We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. 2Corinthians 10:12

John Newton, author of the hymn Amazing grace said, “Although my memory's fading, I remember two things very clearly: I am a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me not to think of myself to highly, nor compare myself with others, but walk in the light of your love. Amen

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 2Corinthians 9:6

The Apostle Paul reminds the Corinthian believers that one day God will return to them in direct proportion to how much they gave to help others. Are you sowing generously?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me your grace and strength so I will not become weary in doing good, for I believe that at the proper time I will reap a harvest if I do not give up. Amen

In the midst of a very severe trial, their (The Macedonian's) overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. 2Corinthians 8:2

The love and joy of Christ caused the Macedonian believers to give generously beyond their means to help people they didn't know. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Are you a generous giver?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me the grace to be a faithful and generous giver, storing up treasure in heaven. Amen

When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider; God has made the one as well as the other. Ecclesiastes 7:14a

God is sovereign over all things. God tests and refines us in the furnace of affliction. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?

Prayer: Holy God, grant me grace to rejoice in my sufferings, because suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope will not disappoint, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Amen

God gives a man wealth, possessions and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires, but God does not enable him to enjoy them, and a stranger enjoys them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil. Ecclesiastes 6:2

All that you have is a gift from God. You came into the world with nothing, and you will leave with nothing. Are you a faithful steward of the gifts you have been given?

Prayer: Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. Now, my God, I give you thanks and praise your glorious name. Amen

I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. 2Corinthians 6:2

If you have never "believed and received" (John 1:12) Christ as your Lord and Savior, if you have been trusting in your good works- today, receive the free gift of salvation that was won for you on the cross. Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess that I have sinned and done what is evil in your sight. I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins. Forgive me and wash away my sins. Amen

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2Corinthians 5:17

God makes us new in Christ Jesus, we are born again of water and the Spirit. We are to live a new life by the Spirit's power, and not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you that you bore my sins in your body on the cross. Thank you for the "new life" you have given me in Christ Jesus my Lord. By your grace help me follow in the footsteps of faith. Amen

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2Corinthians 4:16

We know that we are aliens and strangers here on this earth. This is not our eternal home; we are only passing through. Each day we are closer to the place where there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may I not be afraid nor discouraged by the troubles in my life. By your good Spirit and your Holy Word, renew new me day after day. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen

A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor. Proverbs 22:9

Good will come to you when you are generous in sharing with those in need. As you bless others you will receive a blessing. Ask God to help you become a "generous" person.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you have richly given me everything I need for my enjoyment. Grant me your grace to be a generous person that I might take hold of life that is truly life. Amen
