Impacting lives with the love of Jesus. Selma Baptist Church (SBC) is a vibrant part of the Selma community. What is that simple vision?

The Church has been a part of life in Selma since 1872, and has occupied three geographical locations . . . although the vision and purpose of the Church has never changed. It is to know Jesus Christ and to make Him known. Our philosophy of ministry is that Selma Baptist Church exists to bring glory to God and to exault Christ preeminently in her assembly and in the individual lives of her members. According to Ephesians 1:3-14, the believer is called to fulfill a cause greater than himself, namely, the glory of God. Thus each individual member is exhorted to fulfill this cause through walking the path of obedience as prescribed by God. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10). We also must forsake all human philosophies, traditions and teachings in order to exalt the Supreme God of all and to allow theocentricity (God-centeredness) to drive the lives of our members. We have coined a term for this here at SBC and it is the 3E Initiative; this initiative serves as the Means to Achieving the Purpose of Glorifying God through the ministries of edification, evangelism, exaltation and equipping.

Before we can shine effectively for Jesus, we must understand that the light we shine must flow from a heart that loves Him.

10/24/2026

We cannot shine with courage, with hope, or reflect the light of Christ in a dark world without one essential thing at the very root of it all. Without this, our words lose their meaning, our actions lose their purpose, and our witness loses its power. Join us tomorrow at 10:00 AM for the conclusion of our Shine sermon series.

It was a blessing to baptize my two sisters into the body of Christ. Glory to God!

We don’t stand against people; we stand for the truth because we love people.

Our world is filled with uncertainty, fear, and darkness. But as followers of Jesus Christ, we have a hope that the world cannot take away! Our hope isn’t based on the promise that life will always be easy. It’s based on the certainty of who Jesus is, what He has done, and the promises He has made! Join us today at 10:00 AM for worship. We are excited to be baptizing more into the body of Christ. God is Good!

Christian courage is not the absence of fear—it is the willingness to obey Jesus when fear is present.

Threatened.
Ordered to stay silent.
Told to stop speaking in His name.
Their response?
“We cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
That’s courage to shine. Join us tomorrow at 10:00 AM as we gather to worship. Be sure to join us for our soup-and-salad social following the service. Bring your favorite and join us. See you then.
