Obedience vs. Surrender: There Is a Difference
You have learned obedience. You are moving. You are doing what God said.
But here is the question Week 9 is asking: has your will actually been surrendered?
Because there is a gap between obeying God and wanting what God wants. And that gap is where a lot of commissioned disciples quietly lose ground.
Jesus showed us the pattern in Gethsemane. He did not pretend He had no preference. He named it honestly before the Father. Not as I will.
And then He released it.
That is the difference. Obedience says I will do what You say. Surrender says I want what You want.
Obedience is behavioral. Surrender is interior. And the formation of a disciple is not complete until both are present.
A disciple who obeys without surrendering their will is one hard instruction away from breaking. Their obedience is sustained by willpower. And willpower has a ceiling.
But a disciple whose will has been surrendered carries a different quality of stability entirely. Their obedience is not effortful. It is the natural expression of a will that has been formed into alignment with God's.
That is what the formation process is building. Not just compliance. Alignment.
Are you obeying God with your actions while still holding your will as your own? Drop a 🙋🏾‍♀️ if this hit home today.
