Leading From Strength, Not Fear

A disciple who has not been fully formed in their identity who still carries unprocessed fears about their adequacy, a sense of self still dependent on the approval and response of the people around them will inevitably lead from those places.
And fear-based leadership is harmful to every person led by it.

2 Timothy 1:7 says God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Three things. Each one a for

Power: the settled authority of a disciple who knows whose they are and does not require external validation to operate from that knowing.

Love: the sacrificial, bearing, enduring love that puts the flourishing of the led above the comfort of the leader. Fear-based leaders cannot sustain this because love requires the self to be genuinely set aside, and the fear-based leader's self is always on alert.

Self: control: the governed interior that does not react from emotion, does not make decisions from anxiety, and does not require the approval of the led to make the hard calls the mission requires.

Fear: based leadership manifests in many ways. Micromanagement is fear of what imperfection will cost the leader's reputation. People-pleasing is fear of the discomfort of making decisions the room does not want. Harshness and intimidation are fear of being exposed as inadequate managed through dominance.

All of these are the same formation gap expressed differently. The identity is not yet settled. The interior has not yet been formed enough to lead from strength.

Fear leads poorly. Formation leads well. Let the work of these weeks change what you lead from.

Leadership Is Formation Made Available to Others

Formed leadership is not about title or gifting or platform. It is formation made available to others. It is who you have become, offered to the people God has placed in your sphere.
Mark 10:42 shows Jesus drawing the sharpest possible contrast between the world's model of leadership and the formation model.

The world's model: authority is exercised over people. Position determines influence. Power flows downward from the top.

The formation model: the greatest is the servant. The first is the slave of all. Leadership is not a position you occupy it is a posture you assume toward the people in your sphere.
This is not just a different leadership style. It is a description of what genuine formation produces.

A disciple whose will has been surrendered who has been through the furnace, who has had their identity settled in Christ, who has been formed in community and carried the weight of assignment without losing worship that disciple naturally leads from below, not above. Not because they lack authority. Because their formation has removed the ego-driven need to demonstrate authority. They know who they are. They do not need the title to prove it.

The authority of the formed leader is not asserted. It is recognized. It shows up in the quality of who they are the settled identity, the governed mouth, the faithfulness in the small places, the endurance in the hard seasons and people follow it not because they are required to but because they have encountered something in the leader that they want to be near.

That kind of leadership cannot be manufactured. It is formed.
The most powerful leaders are not the ones with the most authority. They are the ones with the most formation, freely offered.

Satan studied you before you ever knew God existed and he built a counterfeit just for your gifts.

The same ability God designed for the kingdom got handed to you early wrapped in the wrong package. Psychic instead of prophet. Mystic instead of seer. Astral projection instead of the prophetic. He knew what was on your life so he gave you a cheap version of it first hoping you would never find out what the real thing felt like.

The devil does not counterfeit what is not valuable. If he came for your gifts early that is confirmation that God had something significant assigned to your life all along.

What counterfeit did you carry before God revealed the real thing? Drop it below.

He said you do not just die in hell. You regenerate and do it all over again forever.

Whatever you gave your life over to in this life is the very thing that will torment you for eternity. You deny God and God denies you. That is not a threat. That is a law.

Have you ever thought about what you are giving your life over to right now? Drop your answer below or just drop a fire if this hit you.

He walked into a NASA boardroom and a demon exposed him in front of his bosses before he could say a word.

God told him straight after that meeting. You are not allowed to be hidden anymore. They will know I sent you. When God places you somewhere on assignment you do not get to play it safe. The anointing will announce you whether you are ready or not.

Has God ever exposed your faith somewhere you were not expecting? Drop your testimony below.

FRIDAY
Formation Is What Gets You Through the Hard Season

Not strategy. Not willpower. Not a renewed sense of vision or a conference experience that reignites the enthusiasm.
Formation.

The work done in the ordinary seasons the disciplines built when nothing required them, the obedience practiced when no one was watching, the interior structure maintained when nothing dramatic was happening that is what holds in the season when everything external gives way.

Psalm 46:1 says God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way.

The Psalmist does not say there is nothing to fear. He names the specific circumstances that would justify fear the earth gives way, the mountains move, the sea roars. These are not mild inconveniences.

And in the middle of those circumstances, the posture is: we will not fear.

Not because the situation is not serious. Because God is more present than the difficulty.

The disciple who has been genuinely formed has access to that resource in the hard season in a way the unformed disciple does not. Not because God is less available to the unformed disciple. Because the formed disciple has been building the habits of access for months and years before the hard season arrived.

They know how to pray from the hard place because they built a proactive prayer practice before the hard place arrived. They have a theology of suffering that holds because they built it in the easier seasons.

Formation is what you find when everything else falls away. Build it in the ordinary. It will hold you in the extraordinary.

Therefore I will not fear. Not because the circumstances have changed. Because God is my very present help.

Save this for the next hard season. It will be there when you need it.
