Rainier Avenue Church

Rainier Avenue Church Welcome! Sunday Worship Service is at 10am,
both online & in-person!

Rainier Avenue Church (RAC), located just south of Columbia City in the Rainier Valley, works to bring wholeness in Jesus Christ to people across racial, cultural, and socio-economic lines. RAC is an anchor church in the community through its collaborations with local organizations such as Urban Impact, Coalition for Community Development and Renewal (CCDR), and the Rainier Chamber of Commerce. RAC is a vital part of the Rainier Valley and the world because it serves as a gateway to link significant interaction among committed stewards who provide jobs, education and social services locally and abroad.

We are excited for so many groups starting this fall! Two weekly groups starting this Sunday are Scripture Unpacked for adults and Bible Quiz for 4-12th graders. Both will trace Paul’s journey through Acts 15–28, followed by Ephesians and Philippians in the spring, and will meet for lunch in the map room right after church and then split into their separate groups. Here are details on both:

Scripture Unpacked is a hands-on way to explore God’s Word. We print chapters on plain paper, grab highlighters, and dig in together to uncover key themes, patterns, and connections. This group is open to ages 16+. No homework or long-term commitment—come when you can! All Tools Provided: Printed text, pens, highlighters, and study resources supplied, translation assistance available for English Language Learners. Meets weekly on Sundays, 11:30 AM – noon lunch in the Map Room, followed by group study in the 3-5th grade classroom downstairs.

Bible Quiz welcomes 4-12th graders to join the upcoming season! Practices are every Sunday right after church. One Saturday per month, students gather with other teams for encouraging, friendly competitions. Whether your child is brand new or a seasoned quizzer, our team environment is welcoming and supportive. Kickoff Practice: this Sunday, September 13, 11:30 AM – 1:15 PM, start in the map room for lunch, pickup from the 1-2 grade classroom downstairs.

This Sunday after church, come walk through the Hillman City neighborhood guided by David Leong from our congregation, author of "Race and Place" and one of the speakers in our "RAC: Still Becoming" sermon series. Meet right outside the Juneau St doors after church and we'll walk a 60-80 min loop through the community garden and the main Hillman City business district stopping to notice points of interest like Rankgham's memorial flower bed at the garden, the history of the Black and Tan Hall, and consider ongoing dynamics of immigration and gentrification (likely under 1 mile total walking). We'll conclude at the church with discussion and lunch from neighboring business Habesha Cafe -- please RSVP here so we can plan well for lunch! https://bit.ly/4xmsJ5v

Please pray along with those in Nepal including our sister churches facing tragic flash flooding today.

🇳🇵🙏 𝐏𝐑𝐀𝐘 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐍𝐄𝐏𝐀𝐋

A sudden surge sent the Bhote Koshi River over its banks, sweeping through villages in Rasuwa district, with Timure and Syabrubesi among the hardest-hit areas. Roads, bridges, and power projects have been damaged, and communication lines in the region have been disrupted. As of this evening, at least 22 people are confirmed dead, and many more remain missing or out of contact, with the numbers still changing as rescue teams reach cut-off communities. Hundreds of travelers, both Nepali and foreign, are still unaccounted for, along with rescue crews and hydropower workers caught in the flood.

𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘂𝘀?

Pray for those still trapped and still missing, that rescuers would reach them in time.
Pray for the families waiting in unbearable uncertainty for news of the ones they love.
Pray for strength and safety for the soldiers, police, and volunteers carrying out dangerous rescues.
Pray for protection from further flooding and landslides, and for healing for the injured.
Pray for shelter, food, and medical care to reach the cut-off communities quickly.
Pray for comfort for all who are grieving tonight.

And pray that our churches in Rasuwa would be a source of real comfort and hope to their neighbors in the days ahead.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18)

Thank you for praying for the people of Nepal and for all those affected by this disaster.
