Rainier Avenue Church (RAC), located just south of Columbia City in the Rainier Valley, works to bring wholeness in Jesus Christ to people across racial, cultural, and socio-economic lines. RAC is an anchor church in the community through its collaborations with local organizations such as Urban Impact, Coalition for Community Development and Renewal (CCDR), and the Rainier Chamber of Commerce. RA

C is a vital part of the Rainier Valley and the world because it serves as a gateway to link significant interaction among committed stewards who provide jobs, education and social services locally and abroad.

We also get to hear from Gregory and Shawn Davis about this year's Back to School Bash led by Rainier Beach Action Coalition, and about ways we can show up to support and participate. We are in a sermon series exploring our identity as a church which we continue to live into in this season of leadership transition. You can also participate in some tangible ways -- this Sunday is our monthly Street Outreach & Prayer after church, and coming up are chances to share stories, be part of Rainier Beach Action Coalition's neighborhood Back to School Bash. You can save the date now for a neighborhood walk with David Leong who preached this past Sunday, and we'll also have journals with prompts for neighborhood activities available in the lobby this coming Sunday. We are starting a new sermon series on "Rainier Avenue Church: Still Becoming," exploring the values that are key to our church even as we prepare for what God has next for us in this season of leadership transition. You can hear Pastor Allison's introduction this past Sunday (https://bit.ly/3RBhXsA). This weekend at the church retreat, we'll continue to explore these themes led by Pastor Deryl, Pastor Janet, and Pastor Van. And then next Sunday we'll be back to our regular schedule meeting at 10am at the church building, and David Leong will guide us in exploring our biblical call to diversity and justice from the book of Acts. Let's take this chance to keep growing into who we are as a church!

RAC's all-church retreat is coming up this weekend!! We are so excited for everyone taking time to come stay at Cascades or stop by for the day on Saturday and are looking forward to this time to build a stronger sense of community in our church. In case you are not able to make it to the church retreat, we will not have a church service at our regular building, and there will be no livestream available. You can visit another church near you in the neighborhood, or connect with one of the churches we partner with through the Christian Community Development Association, Urban Impact Seattle, and the Free Methodist Church. Let's take this chance to build connections both inside our church family and throughout our neighborhood and wider network!

All adults are welcome to the in-person Bible Study Group that meets at RAC on Tuesdays! Pastor Tracy will lead this group in studying the book of Exodus starting this Tuesday, July 14, and meeting on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. downstairs in the Map Room. We are looking forward to this chance to build community in our church family and hope you'll be there -- you can stay in the lodge, bring your own tent, or drive down to Cascades Camp for the day on Saturday. Registration closes on Thursday so that we can give the camp a list of how many to prepare meals for.

Also, if you can't make it to the church retreat, remember that we will have no church service at our regular building on Sunday, 7/19 -- please visit another church near you or one of the partner churches we are connected with through the Christian Community Development Association or Free Methodist denomination. This is the last week to sign up for RAC's All-Church Retreat! We still have rooms available in the lodge, you can bring a tent or RV to camp, or just come for the day on Saturday 7/19. We will get to enjoy beautiful outdoor scenery, campfires, spiritual practices led by RAC’s pastors, and activities like a waterslide, hayride, storytelling, and group games! The retreat will finish by 10:30am on Sunday morning - plenty of time to get home for the World Cup final. Scholarship funds are still available (you can also donate the scholarship fund) -- sign up now and choose "pay later" on the form and we'll reach out with scholarship options.
