Remembering September 11
Twenty-five years later, we remember with prayer all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and all those whose lives were forever changed by that tragic day.
As a Byzantine Catholic community, we entrust the departed to the mercy and love of God, praying for their families and loved ones, and for all those who continue to be impacted by the events of that day; including survivors, first responders, rescue workers, and those who continue to carry physical and emotional wounds.
May the Lord grant rest to those who have fallen, comfort to those who mourn, healing to those who continue to suffer, and peace to our communities. May we never forget the courage, compassion, and selflessness shown in the days that followed.

🌿 Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary. 🌿

The Nativity of the Theotokos is a feast of hope. Through Mary, we see the dawn of our salvation and the one who would freely offer herself to God, becoming the Mother of our Savior.

As we begin the Byzantine liturgical year, we look to the Theotokos as our guide, asking her to lead us ever closer to her Son, Jesus Christ.

Today, September 1, the Byzantine Catholic Church begins a new liturgical year.

The Byzantine liturgical year is beautifully guided by the life of the Theotokos, the Mother of God. We celebrate her Nativity on September 8 and her Dormition on August 15. In this way, the liturgical year begins just before her birth and ends just after her Dormition.

The Theotokos is revealed to us as a guide. In many icons, she is shown pointing toward her Son, Our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ. Her whole life directs us toward Him.

As we enter this new liturgical year, may we entrust ourselves to the guidance and intercession of the Theotokos. May she lead us through the feasts and fasts, through times of joy and times of trial, and always draw us closer to her Son.
