Westhope Presbyterian Church

Westhope Presbyterian Church We are a welcoming, inclusive community offering sacred, safe space for people to find and develop their own connection to the Holy.

Westhope is an intentionally contemplative community that tries, in all it does, to listen for the Holy and then love people as Christ has called us to love. We are a community open to a variety of ways of thinking and interpretations yet holding respect for one another at our core. We work to be inclusive in our faith and care not conformative. We offer a non-traditional way of doing church that

can be a healing place for those who have been scarred or burned by the traditional church. We offer the call to slow down and be still in a Valley that is hyper-speeding through life. God lies at the heart of each moment...are we willing to slow down and be aware of that Presence?

Gratitude for the abundance of the Giver of Good Gifts. What are the gifts of who you have been created to be? Can you celebrate the amazing creation of who you are? What might be the Spirit’s call to take the next step into the fullness of who God is creating you to be?

The last shall be first and the first last. We have had 2000 years or so of living with this teaching and yet we still don’t get it. We still have the greatest income gap between rich and poor. We still have the social structure heavily tilted towards the elite. When will we learn? When will we change? Where do you see yourself in the social structure and where might The Creator see that place?

Is Jesus too radical for Christianity? Ponder it for a moment. Christianity is a religion and Jesus taught a way of life…a radical way of love and inclusion and those that society says are at the bottom being the blessed ones. Can we really accept that radicalness??

Never mistake knowledge for wisdom. One helps you make a living; the other helps you make a life. This quote from Sandra Carey speaks to one of the great lackings in our society today. We strive for knowledge but have no deeper wisdom. May the wisdom of the elders and Spirit find you and guide you into Her depths.

What kind of freedom are you focused on as we approach 4th of July? The outer freedom to do whatever you want or the inner freedom of Spirit that opens us to God and others in profound ways? The first is very individual and the second is holistic and communal. The ways of Spirit lead to deep inner freedom and that connects us to all people. May we all find that this weekend.

Can contemplative really mean growth? Absolutely! It is the opposite in fact of navel gazing. It is the deep inner work that allows the Spirit to transform us. Where are you allowing the Spirit to inspire you to grow? When all of nature is in the season of growth, can we allow that outer reality to become our inner reality? Blessing on the journey.

The flowers are exploding just in time for Mothers Day! Happy Mothers Day to all! Can you imagine if we celebrated Gods feminine attributes more often? And left behind all that male hierarchy and power dynamics? I think the churches would be full to reconnect to a nurturing and healing God. May today help us broaden our understanding once more.

Holding vigil tonight with our indigenous brothers and sisters who are drawing attention to missing and murdered indigenous women. We need to know that this is still happening. Why is our government so deaf to their cries? Why don’t our authorities take them seriously and investigate as diligently as when white women go missing? Say no more!!

As we walk the pathways of our lives how are we working to open the eyes of hearts to the sacred presence of God? Not in some preconceived expectation but in the day in day out reality of our days. God is present. Alleluia! New life is beckoning. Praise be! Let’s walk in a new way of awareness.
