Community Documentary Night June 7, 7pm Eastern on Zoom
FILM DESCRIPTION: Gay and Le***an Latinos Unidos was founded in 1981, only a few years before HIV/AIDS began to ravage LGBTQ communities. GLLU was the Los Angeles area’s first major Q***r Latin@ organization, and the film chronicles events at a pivotal time in the history of LGBTQ equality, women’s rights, and civil rights movements that shaped the destinies of GLLU’s communities.
PARTNER ORGANIZATION: This Virtual Documentary Night, in honor of Pride Month, is in collaboration with Q***r Latinx (QLatinx), Descolonizarte Teatro (Desco Teatro), Hope CommUnity Center, and SOMOSLOUD Central Florida Chapter (LOUD Central Florida). QLatinx is a grassroots racial, social, and gender justice organization dedicated to the advancement and empowerment of Central Florida’s LGBTQ+ Latinx community. Desco is a professional Latinx social change theater organization that centers Latinx, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ identities and their intersections. Through theater, arts, and educational programming, they promote the diverse experiences, cultures, and talents of Latinx communities while prioritizing accessibility. Hope CommUnity Center is a Florida based nonprofit whose mission is to foster diverse, empowered, learning communities engaged in personal and societal transformation. Through service and advocacy, they stand together with those who are tenacious and courageous in the face of all systems of oppression. LOUD Central Florida is an emerging organization that focuses on using their lived experience as Latina/e/o individuals and their intersecting identities to advance initiatives that build up their community through education, outreach, cultural events and mutual aid.
