Happy Father’s Day to all, in whatever way/ shape/ form that may mean to you! We are grateful!

Yesterday, we celebrated a beautiful wedding at our church. So much love was felt— especially by the wedding couple for their incredibly sweet baby 🥹 What a great example of a father’s (and mother’s!) love on this Father’s Day weekend 💛

Congratulations to the couple! 🥳 Kimmy and James!

Grateful to be able to celebrate and honor the history of Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved people in Texas were told by Union troops that they were free.

Imagine being enslaved, and then imagine being enslaved even TWO YEARS into the Emancipation Proclamation… but finally, freedom. ♥️

Let’s learn humbly, and be kind to one another. Happy Juneteenth.

It’s almost Father’s Day! Another day to focus on 孝, or Filial Devotion (aka Filial Piety), meaning that we respect and honor our elders, especially our parents and ancestors.

Here is a dangling decoration we made a few weeks ago in honor of Mother’s Day! 🧡 (same rules apply 😂)

How has three months already flown by since our last vegetarian exercise??

Well, today is 6/1/26, meaning it’s another day where we choose not to eat meat. For those who normally eat everything, it’s a great way to appreciate how often we DO eat meat products, and to thank our animal brethren!

Before AAPI Heritage Month ends, here’s a Flashback Friday to the church “Bazaar Days,” where church volunteers not only put on fun games to raise construction funds nickel by nickel, but also traveled all across America and even to Canada selling tickets for larger raffle prizes, such as this cool 1959 MG Convertible! 🏎️

The first photo shows some of these hardworking volunteers behind the winner of the convertible in 1959😍

The second photo shows the front and back of the tickets and details of the bazaar and raffle! 🥳

Talk about dedication. Imagine doing a M-F 9-5 job and then volunteering weeknights, Saturdays, and Sundays (til midnight!), fundraising and also actually building a church for over 11 years so that Buddhism could be practiced. This is some of our incredible AAPI history 🥹

to when Hei Ma did a private wonton-making workshop for us! We made pork and chives wontons FROM SCRATCH!! Including making the wonton wrapper dough!! But even though that was fun, it was just the means to an end: an excuse to eat some yum chili crisp. And we mean YUM. 🌶️

Did you know that wontons make a perfect little spoon to eat chili crisp? But we found a way to eat it even with the cute little crown-shaped ones that someone folded hahaha 🥹

Why do we regard Filial Devotion as the first and most important virtue? Well, without our parents / parental figures, we wouldn’t be here.

They raised us, sacrificed sleep for us, made us food that they knew we liked, encouraged us, and loved us.

Respecting them, putting their wellbeing at the top of our minds, and behaving in a way that would make them proud of us and feel reassured that we are safe and healthy, are the least we can do to repay them.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, maternal figures, and would-be moms out there! 💛🌷

We celebrated the Buddha’s birthday this past Sunday and it was another great feast! It’s church tradition to always make “gurn fun” for this party (see the long roll on the first pic) and wrap with coffee crunch cake. Such special treats!!

Thank you to all the cooks and preppers who made us such a scrumptious lunch! The second photo only captures a fraction of the volunteers! 😍
