4. "Use me."
Psalm 51:13-17
It's amazing that after such an epic failure, David still prays to be used by God.
"Then I will teach transgressors Your ways."
David understood something beautiful:
If God could redeem his life, then God could use his testimony to bring others back.
"I've been there. I know what it's like. Let me help point people to You."
That's David's cry.
Use my life.
Because the worship God truly desires is not perfection.
It's a broken and contrite heart.
A heart that says,
"God, I know I've sinned. I deserve nothing, yet You've given me everything."
God isn't looking for perfect people.
He's looking for surrendered hearts.

3. “Renew me.”
Psalm 51:10
“Create in me a clean heart, O God.”
Only God creates something out of nothing.
David knew he didn’t just need behavior modification—he needed a brand-new heart.
Repentance isn’t God trying to ruin your life.
He’s trying to rebuild it.
It’s like renovating an old house.
Once you start tearing down walls, you often discover more damage than you expected.
The same is true when we invite the Holy Spirit to search our hearts.
But don’t be discouraged.
God isn’t exposing what’s broken to shame you.
He’s exposing it so He can heal it.
David’s deepest desire wasn’t simply to escape consequences.
He wanted his relationship with God restored.
It’s as if he’s saying,
“Lord, I miss what we used to have. I miss the joy I once had in Your presence.”
Have you ever prayed that?

2. “Cleanse me.”
Psalm 51:7
“Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean.”
Throughout the Old Testament, God demonstrated forgiveness through the shedding of blood.
The people offered lambs as sacrifices for the atonement of sin.
David also remembers the first Passover in Egypt, when God’s people placed the blood of the lamb over their doorposts using hyssop so the angel of death would pass over them.
David is essentially saying,
“I’ve sinned so deeply that I need to be washed by the blood of the Lamb.”
Centuries later, Jesus hung on the cross and was offered sour wine on a branch of hyssop.
The greater Lamb had come.
Nothing you have done is greater than the cleansing power of Jesus Christ.
He can still wash you white as snow.

Prayers of Confession
1. "Forgive me."
Psalm 51:1
"Have mercy on me, O God."
We can't move forward until we're willing to ask for forgiveness.
Our sin affects everyone around us, but above all, it grieves the heart of God.
Are you tired of hiding the real you?
David thought he was hiding his sin, but God wasn't fooled.
Sin creates disordered loves. It causes us to place other things above God in our hearts.
Sin is like mold—it grows best in the dark but dies in the light.
Stop feeding it.
Bring it into the light and ask God for forgiveness.
David appeals to God's steadfast love because he knows that even when we are faithless, God remains faithful.
