Hi St. Mark Young Church, it’s Megan. This post will take on a different voice than normal because I want to share some thoughts.
Today and tomorrow are some pretty big feast days in the Church, but because they fall on Saturday and Sunday, we might miss out on the beauty of the liturgical celebrations.
- All Saints’ Day (11/1) was created to commemorate every last individual in heaven, even those whose salvation is known to God alone.
- All Souls’ Day (11/2) is the day that we pray for the souls in purgatory and remember the faithful departed and our loved ones who have gone before us.
A couple years ago, I went to an All Saints’ party and something I heard that night will stick with me forever.
“All Saints’ day will be YOUR feast day”
This gets me hype for heaven! Hype to one day be in communion with Christ and all those who have gone before me in faith. The majority of the faithful departed do not become canonized saints, but how incredible is it that we still get a feast day?
How incredible is it that Bryson and Landon now have a feast day?
A common phrase used by friends during my time in college and as a missionary was “see you in the Eucharist!” We would say this to each other as a way to express that we may not all be in the same place at the same time again in this life, but when we receive the Eucharist, we will be united in the Body of Christ.
The last time I was with both Landon and Bryson at the same time was on Spring Retreat in March of this year. The next time any of us will get to see Landon and Bryson is in Heaven, but we are still connected through the Eucharist, through the Body of Christ, only now we are separated by the veil between Heaven and Earth.
It was an honor to know both of these young men, see the Lord work in their lives and ultimately call them home. I will continue to remember them and pray for their eternal rest. I will ask for their intercession and hope that you will join me. Who knows, maybe we can actually get them canonized one day!!
All you holy men and women, pray for us!
Landon and Bryson, pray for us!
