Intercessor

Sometimes a simple reminder of who the Messiah truly is in our lives can bring peace in a tumultuous world. Here is what Dr. Fruchtenbaum wrote in the third volume of our Come and See series:

“That Yeshua is our intercessor is brought out in Romans 8:34: ‘Who is he that condemns? It is Messiah Yeshua that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.’ Hebrews 7:25 says, ‘Wherefore also he is able to save to the uttermost them that draw near unto God through him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.’

Functioning as our intercessor is part of Yeshua’s high priestly ministry in that He intercedes on behalf of the believer before God. The picture is that as mediator, He represents God to man, and as intercessor, He represents man to God.”

Comforting, isn't it, to know that the Messiah who died, rose again, and is seated at the right hand of God is also the One who intercedes for us?

On this sad day, may our people in Montreal be comforted and strengthened by these precious words: "I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust!’" (Psalm 91:2).

Our Father

“The king was deeply moved and went up to the chamber over the gate and wept. And thus he said as he walked, ‘O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!’” (2 Samuel 18:33)

This verse is heartbreaking, isn’t it? “Would I had died instead of you,” David cried. But he could not die for his son.

Our God, on the other hand, could provide what David could not. And He did.

He is the perfect Father, the One who did not spare His own Son in order to save the lost.

On this Father’s Day, we extend our gratitude to our fathers and honor them. But first and foremost, we worship our God, who did the impossible to save us with a love greater than any earthly father’s love.

Today is a day of rest. People lay down their busy hands, enjoy life for a moment, take a breath, and smell the roses, as they say. Shabbat, this day of rest, was never meant to be a burden to man. It was given as a blessing, and our great God Himself showed us how it is done: He worked for six days, and then He rested.

God is not a God of disorder, confusion, instability, or turmoil but of peace. In our work life, in our free time, on travel days, while tending to a sick child, and even in moments when the world seems to plunge into chaos because of man’s weakness and sinfulness, God offers us peace.

On this Shabbat, let us meditate on this promise of 1 Corinthians 14:33: “For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.”

Some rabbinic teaching says that the righteous do not really die. Death is viewed as only an appearance in this false world, while in the “World of Truth” they remain alive and continue their work.

The biblical view is different. Scripture does teach that the soul continues after death, but it never treats death itself as an illusion. Death is real. It is the consequence of sin and the separation of the soul from the body.

Jacob truly died: “he yielded up the ghost, and was gathered unto his people” (Gen. 49:33). Moses truly died: “So Moses the servant of YHWH died there” (Deut. 34:5). Their souls continued to exist, but their physical deaths were real.

The hope of Scripture is not that death is unreal, but that death will one day be defeated through resurrection. As Paul writes, “The last enemy that shall be abolished is death” (1 Cor. 15:26).

In his commentary on Zephaniah, Dr. Fruchtenbaum explains that the theme of the book is the tribulation, the day of YHWH. Zephaniah does not ease into his message. After the brief introduction in 1:1, he moves straight into a stark declaration of judgment:

“I will sweep everything away from the face of the earth—declares GOD” (Zephaniah 1:2, Rev. JPS, 2023).

The Hebrew is striking in its intensity. It expresses not just judgment, but certainty and totality: God Himself clearing the earth, as with a divine broom, removing all that stands under His judgment.

In verses 2-3, the scope becomes universal. Mankind, animals, birds, and fish are all included in this judgment. From the very beginning, Zephaniah makes clear that the day of YHWH is no minor event. It is comprehensive, decisive, and carried out by God Himself.
