Isaiah 53: Who's the Servant?

This is just one of the many important questions explored in the newest edition of Ariel Magazine, which is entirely dedicated to this powerful chapter of the Hebrew Bible.

We invite you to study Isaiah 53 with Drs. Arnold Fruchtenbaum, Tim Sigler, and William Varner, as well as Messianic Pastor Jacques Isaac Gabizon. You will also read the testimony of Rivka Simms, a powerful real-life example of what this chapter means for the salvation of Jewish people.

Also in this edition of Ariel Magazine: reports on Dr. Fruchtenbaum’s farewell tour through Germany earlier this year, the Corporate Office team’s visits to a local Holocaust museum, and two forthcoming book publications. And you will meet Francis S. Augustine, one of our representatives in training, and learn how he came to saving faith.

There is much to discover in this issue, and we hope it will encourage you to open Isaiah 53 afresh and study this remarkable chapter with us.

This week, Dr. Sigler “did a thing,” as they say, at Camp Shoshanah!

In addition to teaching, writing, and taking care of so many other things, he made sure that Dr. Fruchtenbaum’s degrees and awards were finally displayed on the wall of the Fruchtenbaum Library. Dr. Fruchtenbaum was delighted!

And really, what better place to honor his legacy than at his beloved Camp Shoshanah?

With this encouraging news, we wish you a peaceful and blessed weekend. Shabbat Shalom!

The Tribulation According to Malachi 4

Verse 1 opens with a declaration: "For, behold, the day comes." Dr. Fruchtenbaum explains that the term “day” refers here to the tribulation period. Burning "as a furnace," this coming day will consume "all the proud," while "all that work wickedness shall be stubble." Like straw consumed in a blazing fire, the wicked will be destroyed swiftly and completely. The coming day "shall burn them up and shall leave them neither root nor branch"; nothing will remain by which the wicked might continue.

Malachi’s description of the Day of YHWH as fiery judgment accords with the broader prophetic portrayal of that period. It also fits the eschatological goal of bringing Israel’s transgression and sin to an end (Dan. 9:24), a reality this verse depicts in vivid terms.

Things We Miss When We Don’t Read Malachi!

In chapter 3, the prophet wrote:

“Then they that feared YHWH spoke one with another; and YHWH hearkened, and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before him, for them that feared YHWH, and that thought upon his name. 'And they shall be mine, says YHWH of hosts, even mine own possession.'”

Think about that.

YHWH listened as His people spoke with one another.

He heard their words. He saw their reverence. He took notice of those who thought upon His name. And before Him, a book of remembrance was written concerning them.

Then comes this extraordinary promise:

“They shall be mine . . . even mine own possession.”

Who would not want to be called YHWH’s treasured possession?

May our names be written in such a book. May YHWH hear the words we speak to one another and find them pleasing. And may we live as people who truly belong to Him, His own treasured possession.

The Messiah of Malachi 3:1

Malachi records YHWH saying, “I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me” (Mal. 3:1). The New Testament identifies that messenger as John the Baptist, the one who prepared the way “before Yeshua” (Mt. 11:10; Lk. 7:27).

Think about that:
Malachi says John would prepare the way before “YHWH.”
The Gospels say that John prepared the way before “Him,” referring to Yeshua.

That is no minor detail. It is a powerful declaration of the Messiah’s deity.

And Malachi 3:1 goes further: The One who comes is called “ha’adon,” “the Lord,” and He comes to “His Temple.” Yeshua is not merely God’s representative or a human messenger sent by YHWH. He is the divine Messiah, the Lord who comes to His Temple.

A life without hope is futile. But where does true hope come from?

Romans 5:1-5 explains: "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."
