Catholic Community Services of Utah

Catholic Community Services of Utah CCS provides help & creates hope for those with the greatest need in our community. Since then, CCS has operated a variety of programs to serve our community.

Catholic Community Services of Utah started in 1945 when Most Reverend Duane G. Hunt of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City recognized the need for an organized effort to assist the poor and needy. As needs have shifted over the years, so has CCS’ response to those needs. Some programs have ceased operation, while others have been newly formed to meet new needs. Currently CCS operate two depart

ments—Migration & Refugee Services and Basic Needs. Migration & Refugee Services, which encompasses Refugee Resettlement, Refugee Foster Care, and Immigration, exists to assist those settling into life in the United States smoothly transition to life in a new country and reach self-sufficiency. Basic Needs, both in Salt Lake City and in Ogden, exists to provide those impacted by housing, food, and income insecurity with the resources they need. For over 75 years, CCS has worked diligently to provide help and create hope along the Wasatch front.

*CCS is an an equal opportunity employer and provider who values diversity.

In her role with Refugee Foster Care, Mayela supports fellow case managers through challenging situations while also guiding the youth and families on her own caseload as they navigate life in the United States. Her dedication, leadership, and willingness to support both colleagues and clients make her an invaluable member of the team.

Mayela says the most rewarding part of her job is building meaningful relationships with youth and being a consistent, trusted adult in their lives. Watching them grow, gain confidence, and successfully transition into adulthood is what inspires her every day.

She also shared that she's proud to be part of CCS, working alongside people who share the same commitment to helping refugee families and youth find stability and build bright futures.

Thank you, Mayela, for the compassion, leadership, and heart you bring to Refugee Foster Care. We're grateful for the difference you make every day!

For more than a decade, CCS has provided legal representation to unaccompanied immigrant children in Utah. As of July 31, 2026, federal funding for this work has ended.

Without support, 140 children in our care face an uncertain future as they continue navigating a complex immigration system.

We remain committed to standing beside these children—but we can't do it alone.
