OUR HEARTS ARE BROKEN đź’” On Sunday, September 6th, the St. Cyprian's Church family said a heartbreaking goodbye to Kathy Vande Berg following a brief illness. As our long-time music director and organist, Kathy touched countless hearts through her incredible musical talents.

Growing up in a musical family, Kathy loved sharing memories of accompanying her father on the piano during community Gospel sing-a-longs. Her passion for music led her to a career teaching in public schools across Atlanta and New York. When she and Jim moved to St. Augustine, she immediately poured her energy into the city's creative spirit. Over the last 15 years, Kathy directed two local community choruses, served on the board of the Romanza Musical Festival, and helped shape the cultural fabric of North Florida.

Equal to her love of music was her fierce commitment to social justice. Kathy worked tirelessly against discrimination and championed rights for the underprivileged. When she encouraged St. Cyprian's church members to march in St. Augustine's Gay Pride parade under a "Love is Love" banner, she was simply living out her core truth. "Love is Love" truly sums up who Kathy was, a message she shared constantly through her music and her actions.

Kathy will be missed beyond measure. But whenever I stand up to sing a hymn at St. Cyprian's Church or join a march in St. Augustine, I know her spirit will be right there singing and marching beside us.
