Beach homes often feature nautical decor such as the anchor. the anchor represents, among other things, the ability to explore ocean wonders while remaining safely grounded, especially when storms arise. No matter the time or tide, the heavy, hooked iron secures our spot.

If a simple beach decoration can serve to remind us of safety and security, what do we decorate our lives with? How about mementos of the times in our lives when God revealed Himself as a present help and dependable Father? These testimonies dig our anchors further into the secure promises of God.

We need reminders of these instances because we can easily forget how faithful God is. Maybe He provided rent. Maybe He sustained a family member through an illness. It can be helpful to mark those times when God has proven trustworthy, and perhaps certain images-anchors, pictures, Bible verses, a stone, a flower-remind us of God's goodness. Placing this kind of decoration in view reminds us of God's dependability in present storms when they threaten to overshadow past testimonies.

When the waves rise and hard times roll in with strong currents, remembering God's faithfulness will help keep our anchors secure. When the brighter days come, we can add to the decor of our lives another reminder of God's trust, worthiness and goodness.

God mark my memory with times You've been true and kind to me so that my trust runs deep, like an anchor in the sea.

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure

NINE DOORS DOWN -

In the two years since we'd moved into our new neighborhood, I'd seen her during my walks. Sometimes she was rolling her trash can out to the curb or watering her flowers. I'd smile and say hi for a brief second. After all, the neighborhood is big; my life is busy. So I'd pop my earbuds back in and keep walking to my house, just nine doors down.

A little while back, there were flashing lights and sirens in my neighborhood. A fire, maybe? I thought. Although the rescue vehicles were parked in front of my nine-doors-down neighbor's house, no fire appeared to blaze. Must have been a false alarm, I reasoned to myself.

Two days later, I heard the awful news,..no fire, no smoke, just a terribly saddened soul.

You see, just nine doors down, something happened in the mind of my nameless, flower-watering fellow human being. Something told her this life wasn't worth living anymore. And she agreed.

Now her heart no longer beats. I can still walk by her house, lost deeply in the Jesus music blaring from my phone. Rushing to the next thing on my to-do list for the day.

Nine doors down there will be no more waves, smiles or thoughts of, I should stop and find out her name. If I'd reached out and befriended her, would she have seen Jesus through our friendship? Would a glimpse of the perfect God in the life of an imperfect me have beckoned her to have a relationship with Him too? Would she have found god's purpose and peace instead of finding a way to end her emotional pain? God only knows.

Are we too busy to love our neighbor, the people that God puts in our path? Even though our schedules are full, we can pause, permitting God to tap us on the heart, gently interrupt us and rearrange our day. When God knocks on our hearts, we can knock on their doors.

May we all respond to those taps on our hearts today and not ignore them. God just may use us as He saves a life. It might not even be much of a walk....even just nine doors down.

"Love Your Neighbor as yourself" - Mark 12:31

Many of us struggle to find our calling. It can seem elusive and hard to figure out, and many of us become discouraged as we seek to find.

Thank goodness the Bible has a lot to say about callings! A calling from God is an invitation to return to Him. By faith, to respond to His grace and love in Christ. The most important calling is to be saved from our sins, forgiven, and declared acceptable and unconditionally loved by the God who made us. This is God's universal call - an invitation to everyone to come as they are, but not to stay as they are.

The Bible also talks about a more unique kind of calling, one that is specific to each of us based on the gifts God has given us. This includes our passions, experiences, education, skills and God-given heart for a broken world. God has wired and given each of us a calling to help us steward our lives well for His glory and for the good of those around us.

You have something to offer the world. That's not only because you are great but because God is gracious. He is the One who has called you, will empower you by His Spirit, and will guide you into opportunities to love and serve others in Jesus' name. Yours might be a calling to lead and manage others. Perhaps it is the gift of serving behind the scenes. God calls us to show mercy and compassion to those who are hurting. We are called to teach, to give generously, to encourage, and to build up those who are discouraged.

Out of His goodness, God has chosen to accomplish His perfect purposes through imperfect people. He calls us to be with Him so we might represent Him to a watching world. Our lives matter. They are full of meaning and purpose because we have a God who loves us and has called us uniquely to be used by Him!

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. Romans 12:6

What a beautiful afternoon we shared last Saturday at Daughters of the Most High Tea – “Spilling the Tea…God’s Way” 💕🫖

Our hearts are so full after gathering together, laughing, connecting, and being reminded of the power of kind, life-giving words.
