Communion Sunday reminds us that we never come to the table alone.

We come as one family—welcomed by the grace of Jesus, united by His sacrifice, and called to love one another as He has loved us. In the bread and the cup, we remember the Savior who gave Himself for us. In every conversation, smile, embrace, and prayer, we experience the gift of belonging to His people.

What a joy to worship together, share life together, and make room for one another. This is the beauty of the church: many stories, many journeys, but one family gathered around one table because of Jesus.

Sometimes God guides us by opening a door—and sometimes by lovingly closing one.

In Acts 16:6–15, Paul, Silas, and Timothy did not receive the entire map at once. They encountered detours, restrictions, and moments that may have felt like wandering. Yet God was still leading them, step by step, toward Lydia—whose heart He had already prepared to receive the Gospel.

Today, as we gathered around God’s Word and shared Communion, we were reminded that our confidence is not in having every answer. It is in Jesus Christ, whose body was given and whose blood was shed for us. Because He has already proven His love at the cross, we can trust Him even when the next step is unclear.

Can God still accomplish His purposes when His people disagree, fail, and make a mess of things?

In Acts 15:36–16:5, Paul and Barnabas separate after a sharp disagreement—but God’s mission continues. Then Paul asks Timothy to be circumcised, not as a requirement for salvation, but to remove an unnecessary barrier to sharing the gospel.

Through conflict and contextualization, we see the same truth: God accomplishes His purposes through the messiness of imperfect people.

Our failures do not overpower His grace. The gospel never changes, but love may call us to lay down our freedoms so others can encounter Jesus.

God’s work has never depended on perfect people.

In Acts 15:36–16:5, we see believers get things wrong—and get things right—yet God continues to strengthen His Church. His purposes move forward not because of flawless human performance, but because of His unfailing grace.

Pastor Dave Pack reminded us today to hold tightly to the truth of the gospel while holding our methods loosely, removing unnecessary barriers so others can hear about Jesus.

Partnership in ministry is more than giving—it is reminding one another that we are not alone.

Fremont Presbyterian’s partnership with City of Refuge, Sacramento has helped create welcoming spaces where people can find shelter, clean clothing, friendship, dignity, and hope. From providing new windows for refuge housing to supporting a ministry that has housed more than 950 women and children over the past 17 years, every act of generosity has made a meaningful difference.

We are grateful to serve alongside City of Refuge as they break cycles, build lasting legacies, and shine the light of Christ right here in Sacramento. May we continue using what God has placed in our hands to expand His Kingdom and help others find their way to the Father’s house.
