🌿 Faith in the Basin 🌿
We are honored to share the very first feature in our Faith in the Basin series.
A heartfelt thank you to Roosevelt Baptist Church for being willing to be the first to participate. Our hope is that this series will help us better understand one another, build friendships, and celebrate the many faith communities that make up the Uintah Basin.
Below are the words of Pastor Dustin Carpenter, shared in his own words:
Roosevelt Baptist Church is a church for ordinary people who are trying to follow Jesus together. We are Christians rooted in the historic and orthodox faith expressed in the Scriptures and the Nicene Creed. We believe and confess what we see as the seven essential doctrines of the Christian faith: the Trinity, the Incarnation, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection, the Holy Spirit, the Church, and the Return of the King. These are the great realities that have shaped Christian worship, discipleship, and mission for nearly two thousand years.
The Gospel is what we often call the Good Story: that Jesus, the one true God and rightful King of the world, has come to rescue sinners, defeat sin and death through His cross and resurrection, and bring His people home into the Kingdom of God. We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone.
We’re not a flashy church. We’re a church that loves Scripture, prayer, communion, good conversations, and life together. We gather every Sunday at 11:00 AM at 402 N Hillcrest Dr. in Roosevelt, right by the golf course.
One thing that makes us a little different is that we’re intentionally trying to recover some of the ancient practices of the Christian faith. We regularly read Scripture together, pray the Lord’s Prayer, confess the Nicene Creed, celebrate Communion, and spend a lot of time talking about what it actually looks like to follow Jesus in everyday life. We often describe discipleship as an apprenticeship to King Jesus, learning to follow Him together in all of life, for all of life.
My own story is that I was once an atheist. I did not believe in God, and I certainly did not believe Jesus was King. But King Jesus found me, rescued me, forgave me, and changed the direction of my life. That journey eventually brought me to Roosevelt Baptist Church, where my passion is helping people discover the same grace that transformed me and seeing the Gospel spread throughout our neighborhoods and community.
Whether someone has been following Jesus for decades, has questions about faith, or is simply looking for a church home, they’re welcome to visit. We’d love to meet them, hear their story, open the Scriptures together, gather around the Lord’s Table, and point one another to Jesus.
