Lotus & Lion Spotlight
✨Faith Stone

Faith Stone is a seasoned artist whose exploration of carving and painting Buddhas spans more than three decades, marked by a deep immersion in the traditional art of Tibetan thangka painting. For 20 years, Faith dedicated herself to mastering the intricacies of thangka, honoring sacred proportions and capturing the essence of traditional Buddhist art while bridging ancient practices with modern interpretations.

Beyond her canvas, Faith has assumed the role of a guardian of cultural heritage. Over the past 10 years, she has been fervently committed to the preservation and revival of Buddha woodblocks, particularly thangka woodblocks. This art form faced endangerment in the wake of the Chinese Communist invasion of Tibet. Faith’s dedication has made her one of the few artists worldwide engaged in the intricate processes of carving and hand-printing Buddhist woodblocks.

Images 1: Environmental Green Tara (acrylics on canvas)

Environmental Green Tara by Faith Stone presents the beloved Buddhist bodhisattva as a guardian of ecological harmony and interconnection. Seated peacefully upon a lotus cloud, Tara radiates compassion and calm while surrounded by animals of land and sea, symbolizing her vow to protect all living beings.

Through this work, Environmental Green Tara reminds us that compassion is not passive. It is an active responsibility to care for the vulnerable, preserve ecological balance, and live in respectful relationships with all beings who share this world.

✨Maria Aragon

I am a self-taught artist working in oil and in collage, using art calendars I hoard to make symbolic or whimsical artworks. I pull from research on ancient cultures and various spiritual paths to express ideas, symbolisms, and create new perceptions for familiar figures, like Apollo or Medusa.

Lotus & Lion Artist Spotlight
✨Sajal Siwakoti✨

Growing up in Nepal, surrounded by temples, rituals, Sanskrit chants, and sacred architecture, spirituality was never separate from daily life. It existed in gestures, spaces, sounds, and silence. These experiences shaped my understanding of life as an intimate relationship between the universe outside and the universe within. Through biomorphic forms inspired by Hatha yoga and meditative movement, I explore this inner energy and the quiet process of self-realization. The golden sphere becomes a symbol of divine radiance, while the stacked rounded forms symbolize unfolding of consciousness and human potential. The Sanskrit mantra Aham Brahmasmi “I am the universe” is central to my practice. It is not only a phrase, but a realization: that what we seek outside already exists within us.

As artist in residence at Eldorado Ashram, this Ganesha sculpture is the first sculpture created here, which makes it especially meaningful, and the three-tier sculpture is the first contemporary sacred sculpture I created in the United States, making it a very special milestone in my artistic journey.

Lotus & Lion Spotlight
✨Suran Song

An interdisciplinary artist who uses mixed media to map the inner weather of the mind. In “The Five Hindrances on the Buddha’s Path,” the artist turns toward the five difficult states (desire, aversion, lethargy, agitation, and doubt) and renders them as sharply observed, spiritually surgical portraits of monkey mind. Working with intuitive contour drawing, each image arises from a kind of snow blindness on the blank page, drawing in the heat of each hindrance as it is felt. The resulting monkey-like figures give form to experiences that are usually invisible, hovering between caricature and self-portrait. How will viewers project their own inner states onto these sparse marks and post-consumer wrappers within the near-emptiness of the frame? These works sit at the edge of humor and discomfort, inviting a direct yet contemplative encounter with the obstacles that shape uneasy consciousnesses.

✨Gray Finch

These mixed media paintings, titled “The Fourfold Path of Harmony,” were created after a meditation with an emphasis on overcoming adversity and transformation. Combining three to four Buddhist images allowed me to push boundaries in my studies and techniques; thus it gave a clearer sense of purpose and created a profound shift in my consciousness of where I am seeking a deeper interconnection to my true self.

Image 1: The Fourfold Path of Harmony II (mixed media)

“The Fourfold Path of Harmony II” was created with the reference of an Eastern Asian legend where the Koi overcomes a waterfall and transcends into a dragon. This symbolizes the journey towards enlightenment.

Image 2: The Fourfold Path of Harmony III (mixed media)

“The Fourfold Path of Harmony III” was created with a clear sense of purpose: to create a triptych through a process of meditation and develop a sense of harmony by combining Buddhist elements with an emphasis on adversity and transformation.

✨ Mary Schultz-Williams

Image 1: Mandala: Third Eye (encaustic, cedar, copper)

Third eye - inner knowing...home within. Sitting in silence, stillness, Buddha nature. A place to be sheltered in love -maitri. Bright light - illuminated self...healing, growing - glowing!

Image 2: Mandala: Blooming (encaustic, cedar, copper, metal leaf)

Blooming from the sacred center, a crystalline core...golden petals unfurling into rays of light. Spiral of life - breathing, balancing - expanding outward. The circle continues and so it goes...birthing brightness, kissing life.

Image 3: Ripples: Earth Altar (encaustic, board, wood shavings)

Inspired by fossilized ancient seabed ripples in the sand, this represents a meditation in nature. Sacred space created by sitting with my true nature, inviting balance and acceptance of time. Nature reflects this process of aging, bringing me back to the present moment through inevitable change.
