This is the most important question any person can ever ask.
A jailer once asked the apostles in Acts of the Apostles 16:30, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” The answer was clear and simple:
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16:31)
Salvation is not about religion.
It is not about church membership.
It is not about good works.
It is not about feelings.
It is not about "spiritual gifts "
It is about a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Here is The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Here is what it means to be saved.
1. Understand that you are a sinner and need to be saved.
(No one is good enough to go to Heaven. No matter how much good we do, we still fall short.)
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; - Romans 3:23
And what is sin?
You don't define it. God does. That definition is found in God's Holy Word in Exodus 20. It is defined by the 10 commandments as follows;
1. "You shall have no other gods before Me"
Is Jesus your only Lord?
If not, you are a sinner.
2. "You shall not make idols"
Do you look to your horoscopes or other forms of spirituality that is not of God? If so, you are a sinner.
3. "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain"
Does the name of God or the name of Jesus come out of your mouth as cuss words? Or, do you say you are a believer yet nothing of your life reflects and growing relationship with Jesus? Yep, sinner.
4. "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy"
Do you honor God first in all things? The things Gid says is holy, do you set aside you to worship Him? If not, sinner.
5. "Honor your father and your mother"
This is deep and I can help with any hurts, doubts, or abuses you may have, just PM me! But the Word of God stands.
6. "You shall not murder"
Any premeditated killing of the innocent in or out of the womb. Sin.
7. "You shall not commit adultery"
Any sexual activity outside of the God ordained standard of marriage between one man and one woman is sin.
8. "You shall not steal"
It doesn't matter the monetary value, stealing is stealing. If you take advantage of the misfortune of another or lie and call it business. Yep, sinner.
9. "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor"
Don't lie!! If ya do, you stand before God a sinner.
10. "You shall not covet"
Don't want another's stuff so much that you will lie, steal, and kill to get it!
Now, we don't become a sinner if we sin. We sin because we are sinners. But God offers forgiveness and restoration only in Christ Jesus. It's called grace...
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
- Ephesians 2:8-9
2. Realize the penalty for sin and be willing to turn from it and surrender to Jesus and His Word.
(Just as there are wages for good, there is wages for sin. The penalty for our sin is eternal punishment in a place called Hell.)
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - Romans 6:23
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: - Hebrews 9:27
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. - Revelation 21:8
3. Believe that Christ died for you on the cross.
(Christ's great love for us was shown when He died on the cross to pay our sin.)
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:6-8
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. - John 14:6
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: - 1 Peter 3:18
4. Receive this Gospel, good news, of Jesus Christ with all your heart and mind.
(Everlasting life is a gift purchased by the blood of Jesus and offered freely to those who call upon Him by faith.)
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. - John 5:24
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. - Romans 10:13
Jesus truly is the only Way, the only Truth, and the only Life. Realize that you are a sinner, turn your sinful life over to Jesus, confess Him as Lord, and begin following Him!
