If Jesus is God, didn't He already know?

What does true greatness look like?
The world often tells us that greatness comes from success, influence, or recognition. Jesus taught something completely different.

He said, "The greatest among you shall be your servant." (Matthew 23:11)

Earlier this week, we looked at why Jesus washed the disciples' feet. In today's Friday Faith Minute, we discover the lesson behind that remarkable act: true greatness is found in humbly serving others.

Words may seem small, but Scripture reminds us they carry tremendous power. A single sentence can encourage a heavy heart, restore a broken relationship, or point someone toward Christ. On the other hand, careless or harsh words can wound deeply, sometimes leaving scars that last for years.

Jesus said that “the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart” (Luke 6:45). Our speech reveals what is happening inside us. When our hearts are filled with God’s grace, truth, and love, our words become instruments of life. When anger, pride, or bitterness take root, our speech often reflects those attitudes instead.

Before speaking today, ask yourself: Will these words bring life or death? Will they build up or tear down? As followers of Christ, we have the privilege of using our tongues to encourage, comfort, teach, and proclaim the hope of the gospel.

Paul begins Romans 12 with a challenge that changes how we think about worship. After spending eleven chapters describing God’s incredible mercy, our salvation through Christ, forgiveness of sin, and the promise of eternal life, he now tells us what our response should be. We are to present ourselves as “living sacrifices.”

In the Old Testament, sacrifices were placed on the altar and died. In the New Testament, God asks us to become living sacrifices. He doesn’t simply want an hour of worship on Sunday; He desires our entire lives. Every decision, every conversation, every act of service, and every moment of obedience becomes an offering to Him.

Notice that Paul appeals “by the mercies of God.” He isn’t trying to motivate us with guilt but with gratitude. We don’t surrender our lives to earn God’s favor; we surrender because we have already received His mercy through Jesus Christ.

Today, ask yourself: What area of my life have I been holding back from God? A living sacrifice continually places every part of life on the altar. When we do, we discover that true worship isn’t confined to a church building; it is lived out every day.

Who are you serving for?
It's natural to appreciate a "thank you" or a word of encouragement. But what happens when no one notices your sacrifice?
In Colossians 3:23–24, Paul reminds us to work wholeheartedly as for the Lord rather than for men.
Jesus modeled this kind of humble service when He washed the disciples' feet. He wasn't seeking recognition; He was demonstrating the heart of His Father.
This week's Wisdom Wednesday challenges us to serve faithfully, even when no one is watching, because God always sees.

Life is filled with reminders that this world is broken. Tears, loss, disappointment, sickness, and pain touch every one of us. Yet Revelation 21:4 gives believers a breathtaking glimpse of what awaits those who belong to Christ. John reminds us that one day God Himself will wipe away every tear. This isn’t merely the end of suffering; it is the beginning of perfect fellowship with Him.

Notice that God doesn’t simply remove our tears from a distance. He personally wipes them away, revealing His tender love and compassion. Every hurt will be healed, every grief comforted, and every injustice made right. Death, the great enemy of humanity, will be gone forever.

This promise doesn’t erase today’s hardships, but it does transform how we face them. We can endure present trials because we know they are temporary. Our future is not defined by pain but by the presence of God.

Today, whatever burden you are carrying, remember that your story does not end with sorrow. In Christ, the best is yet to come.

One of the greatest challenges in our relationships is not talking; it is listening. We are often preparing our response before the other person has finished speaking. James reminds believers that wisdom begins with listening. A listening heart is a humble heart, willing to understand before being understood.

Being “slow to speak” does not mean remaining silent all the time. It means choosing words carefully, recognizing that our words have the power to heal or to wound. A thoughtful response often accomplishes far more than a quick reaction.

James also connects our speech with our emotions by telling us to be “slow to anger.” Anger usually grows when we stop listening and start assuming. It clouds our judgment and often leads to words we later regret. When we pause, listen, and invite God to guide our response, we reflect the character of Christ.

Today, ask God to help you become a better listener, to Him through His Word and to the people He has placed in your life. A listening spirit, a restrained tongue, and a patient heart are powerful testimonies of a life being transformed by God’s grace.

Worry has a way of stealing today’s peace by focusing on tomorrow’s possibilities. Jesus understood that His followers would face real needs and real uncertainties, yet He gave a surprising command: “Do not worry.” He wasn’t suggesting that we ignore our responsibilities or pretend problems don’t exist. Instead, He was inviting us to trust the Father who already knows every need we have.

When we worry, we often act as though everything depends on us. But Jesus reminds us that life is ultimately sustained by God, not by our anxious thoughts. The same God who created us, redeemed us, and loves us is fully capable of providing what we need each day.

Whatever burden you’re carrying today, place it in the Father’s hands. Pray, do what is right, and trust Him with what you cannot control. Faith doesn’t eliminate every challenge, but it does remind us that we never face those challenges alone.
