This morning was truly a team effort. Brody started and got dizzy, still feeling the effects of heat exhaustion from his outdoor graduation Saturday. I'm struggling from events this weekend. Brody was unable to continue and Ed stepped right in finished the message. The body of Christ working together. God is good and I'm very grateful for His grace. Brody is home resting please keep him in your prayers.

Thank you for tuning in! Please consider giving at https://www.firstbaptistrocklin.com/online-giving.html

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.” (Proverbs 1:7)

What is this fear? How would you describe it? Here is a definition from Berkhof “Religion is described in the Old Testament as “the fear of the Lord.” This “fear” is not the same as that “dread” which is so characteristic of heathen religions, though the element to dread is not always absent. It may be described as the feeling of reverent regard for God, tempered with awe, and the fear of disobedience or (occasionally) of the punishment for disobedience.”

The feeling of reverence and awe, and the fear of disobedience, not so much for the fear of punishment but because you might lose the sense of awe and reverence. To allow sin to separate you from the greatest good. The fear of not being in the center of God’s overwhelming love, grace mercy, and peace. You don’t want to lose the best thing you have ever tasted. “Taste and see that the LORD is good. How happy is the person who takes refuge in him!” (Psalms 34:8) (The ordinances, Word of God) They are more desirable than gold— than an abundance of pure gold; and sweeter than honey dripping from a honeycomb. (Psalms 19:10) Once tasted you don’t want anything else. This coupled with a healthy reverence for God’s majesty, greatness, and righteousness.

Now is a great time to choose a bible reading plan for the next year. I have it many times now and I think its worth it every year. Last year I made a reading plan in Logos Bible Software. You read from the Old Testament, Psalms, Proverbs, New Testament 5 days a week over a year. If you like I can send you a PDF version. Or I can send it in any format your prefer, just let me know if your interested. I like it because I get to read some from Psalms and Proverbs everyday I read. I also like because I can use the weekend to catch up if something happens during the week. If you have one you like to use post it in the comments below.

Tonight at 6PM, God bless you and hope to see you there.

“According to the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” (Hebrews 9:22)

Freedom is never free. Our nation on November 11 recognizes our veterans who served. Memorial Day our nation recognizes those who gave their lives for our country. Through their sacrifice we can enjoy the freedoms of being an American citizen. We are free. When we investigate the Bible, we see sacrifices being used to free people from their sin. In the Old Testament the Levitical high priest would enter the Holy of holies and offer blood of animals for the sins of the priest and the people. Why? Because the penalty for sin against God is death. Every year the priest had to offer an offering to cleanse the people of sin.

Now enter Jesus Christ, who lived the Law of God perfectly and as our high priest He enters the Holy of holies not with the blood of claves or goats, but offered His own blood. He gave of Himself to set you free of the penalty of sin for forever. What is the beauty in this? “And just as it is appointed for people to die once—and after this, judgment— so also Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” (Hebrews 9:27-28) Salvation! Freedom from sin and death! Joy of knowing I’m forgiven! Peace with God and with others. Peace in circumstances beyond my control and everything else in the world. "By this will, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time." (Hebrews 10:10)
