Oakland Baptist Church We are a theologically moderate Baptist Church located in Rock Hill, SC, one block from Winthrop University.

This “church in the crossroads,” where both women and men function as servants and leaders, tries to embody what Jesus said were the two greatest commandments: “Love God and love others.” We welcome you to walk alongside us in that journey.

What a joy it was to welcome students from the WinthropLife program to our Ministry Center today! After a tour of the building, they rolled up their sleeves and got to work, inspecting over 300 t-shirts to decide which ones we'd keep, and which would go to a partner organization. Their energy and dedication made a real difference, and we can't wait to have these hardworking students back next month!

We kicked off Missions Month last night with an inspiring conversation featuring Ellen Sechrest, Director for Mission Engagement with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and Scarlette Jasper, CBF Field Personnel serving in Corbin, KY.

Even though we connected through a screen, it didn't diminish our excitement to meet Scarlette and officially commit to serving as an "Encourager Church" for her ministry!

Yesterday in worship, we celebrated the installation of our new class of Deacons, lifting them up in prayer as they begin their term of service to our congregation. It was also our special privilege to ordain Nicole Griffin and Melissa Church as first-time Deacons, a joyful milestone in their journey of faith and service.

What a wonderful Sunday at Oakland Baptist Church! 🙌 As we kick off a new school year, we celebrated so much together as a church family:

📚 Children and youth moved up into their new classes
✨ Our brand-new Young Adult Sunday School class met for the first time
💦 We watched with joy as three people were baptized
📖 Bibles were presented to our 2nd and 6th graders
🏷️ Children and youth received bag tags reminding them that they matter
🙏 We lifted up students, educators, and administrators in prayer

This summer’s intergenerational mission experience took place in our own backyard. We spent the week listening, learning, serving, praying, and reflecting, as we sought to better understand the challenges our neighbors face so that we can continue to do our best to be the presence of Christ at the crossroads of life.

Our week included a household survival simulation with United Way of York County, a tour of Better Bound Bookstore and Youth Development, a conversation with Catawba Area Coalition for the Homeless, assembling goodie bags for the ladies and children at Life House Shelter, sorting donations at The Ministry Center, a tour of Life House Shelter, preparing food to be served at Bethel Shelter, preparing and serving lunch at Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, litter pick-up from the blocks around Dorothy Day, serving dinner at Bethel Shelter, a tour of Pathways Community Center, leading crafts and games at Pathways’ Learning Lab, and serving ice cream to all who work within Pathways.

It was a wonderful, heart expanding week!

Our 3rd–5th graders had a great time last week at PASSPORTkids camp in Montreat. Centered on the theme Vamos: Let's Go, campers learned what it means to be prepared to follow God's call. Throughout the week, they discovered that following God is like running a race. You don't simply show up; you prepare, listen for God's direction, and grow stronger through every challenge along the way.

Each day was filled with Bible study, games, crafts, worship, and time spent building friendships with campers from other churches. As part of their mission education, the children learned about the community of Tepipilli, Mexico, and explored a Mexico City-themed night market. Through all of these experiences, they grew in their faith, deepened their understanding of God's work around the world, and were encouraged to boldly answer God's call.
