A few years ago, during election season, I remember driving down the road and seeing political signs everywhere. Signs promoting different candidates were plastered along the roadsides and in front yards. But among all those signs, one stood out from the rest. It looked just like an ordinary campaign sign, but instead of promoting a candidate, it simply said, “JESUS IS LORD.”
What a powerful reminder! In a season when so much attention is given to political parties, candidates, and elections, we must never forget that Jesus Christ is Lord!
Philippians 2:10–11 reminds us, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow... And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
As Christians, we have both the privilege and responsibility of approaching our vote prayerfully and biblically. Our decisions should not simply be based on political parties, personalities, or popular opinions, but should be carefully considered in light of the principles found in God's Word.
As we prepare to vote, there are several important questions we should prayerfully consider:
1. Does my vote reflect biblical principles?
God's Word, not popular opinion, should guide our convictions and decisions (Psalm 119:105).
2. Have I sought God's wisdom?
Before making important decisions, we should seek the Lord's direction through prayer (James 1:5).
3. Have I considered character and integrity?
Honesty, righteousness, and integrity are qualities that Scripture teaches us to value (Proverbs 11:3).
4. Am I placing my confidence in God rather than man?
Our ultimate hope is not found in any candidate, party, or government, but in the Lord (Psalm 118:8–9).
Elections will come and go. Candidates will win and lose. Political leaders will change. But Jesus Christ is still Lord, His Word is still true, and His throne will never be up for election!
As we approach this election, may we seek God's wisdom, remain faithful to His Word, and remember that our greatest allegiance is not to a political party or an earthly leader, but to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jesus is Lord—yesterday, today, and forever!
