Luke 23:42-43
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Some lessons from the thief on the cross

First - We see the grace, mercy and love of God
A no good thief, living his life as the lowest of lows got saved in the last few minutes of his life. God could have rightfully taken him out at any time and he would have been in hell. But God had mercy and gave him one last chance for the man to get saved and in the last minute of his life.

Second - We see the desire of Christ.
Jesus said today you will be "with me" in paradise. Heaven is full of painless beauty and wonders to see for all eternity. But that's not what makes heaven so wonderful. What makes heaven so wonderful is that we will dwell with our Savior for all eternity, and that's why it says in Hebrews 12:2 " for the joy that was set before him endured the cross". The joy wasn't the cross. The joy was knowing He would be with us for all eternity!

Third - We see the immediate promise of eternity
Jesus didn't say his soul would sleep in the grave. Nope, He said "today you will be with me in paradise"!! Even though the believer walks through the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil because God is with us and when we close our eyes on this earth for the last time, we will open our eyes in paradise forever!

Calvinism is a lie.

The Bible tells us that God created hell for the devil and his angels, not for the devil, his angels and the non-elected. This tells me that God never wanted or desired a single person to ever go there. The Bible tells us that God loved the world so much that He gave us a way to get rid of the stain of sin so no one has to go to a hell that was not created for them. He sent His Son to die on an old rugged cross to pay the sin debt we all have. The resurrection was proof and evidence that God accepted that payment. But unfortunately, because of a love for sin many will reject that payment, die and go to a hell that was never created for them.

Matthew 25:41
